MacBook Air 11" Mid 2012: Power on pads for Mid 2012 MacBook Air 11" A1465

I found information for a 2010, 2011, and 2013 macbook air but I can't for the life of me locate the power pads for the mid 2012 macbook air 11". Here are photos and I hope a kind soul would be able to assist me.

I've only tried the flat head screwdriver method at this point but realized it wasn't a solder point. Yes, I'm an idiot =P

Here's a photo of the board and I just marked locations where I think it might be located based on what I've read.

I figure if powers on then I will replace the keyboard but if it doesnt then it would also involve the logicboard in which case I wouldn't bother fixing it.

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2012: Backlight Not Working...Should I replace Display or Fuse?

My brother has a Mid-2012 Macbook Air 11". He was recently on a flight and was trying to place his bag (which held the Macbook Air) into the cabin compartment. Unfortunately, he lost his grip and the bag feel onto the ground.

A couple of hours later when he went to turn the Macbook and that's where he first noticed the problem with the backlight. He says that when he first turned it on, the screen was very dim, but he was able to make out a dialog box on MacOS. Then he said it flickered and went completely dim.

When he gave it to me, the screen was completely dark. However, by shinning a light through the Apple logo, I was able to see the MacOS desktop and confirm it was the backlight that was not-functioning and not the LCD. I connected his laptop to an external monitor and was able to confirm that everything else was working fine.

At that point, my initial instinct was to just replace the display. I found a couple of eBay listings of Macbook Air displays that came with the full display housing. However, in the course of my research, I've read a lot of support threads identifying the Fuse on the mainboard of the Mac as the reason why backlights on the MBA might fail.

Here's a picture of the (what I think is the) fuse on the mainboard:

My Question: How do I know which is the right solution? How do I know if the Fuse is blown or not? Will buying the display off eBay solve the problem regardless? Or will I end up wasting money if it turns out to be a problem with the Fuse?

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2012: MacBook Air 11" Mid 2012 loose screen

Hello internet people,

I have purchased a used MacBook Air 11" Mid-2012 and noticed that the screen hinge is loose. It sits tight and completely fine, but once you open it up to around 120ish degree angle it becomes completely loose. I've tried to tighten the hinge screws but it didn't seem to help.

I didn't manage to find anything in forums and I guess replacing the hinge wouldn't help because it seems intact and once I tightened the hinge screws it seemed to be even more tight up to 120-ish degree angle. Perhaps there's some sort of screen retainer that's broken off and could be replaced? :((

I hope you have advise on my following issue. I have a Macbook Air mid 2012 out of garantee.

I use it with bootcamp to either run it in Win 7 or Mavericks.

On both OS the screen will start to flicker randomely. More on Mavericks then on Win 7. Also it did happen with previous versions of OS X.

The lower I set the resolution the less issues I get, but still they do occur. Could the LCD cable be the pulprit here or does this sound like a graphic chip/mainboard issue? What can be replaced with the air?

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2012: Using Ifixit portable esd mat with no live ground (ac involved).

I bought the ifixit portable esd mat because I’m doing a logic board replacement in my macbook, and it will take me hours because I’m a rookie and it’s not the easiest mod, first time using esd equipment, the strap goes on my wrist and the mat, the ground cable goes to the mat and… everywhere I read keeps saying a live ground, like the ac panel, or even a ground adapter is best.

My house was built 60 years and from what I know it a was semi amateur job, I have no idea how the guy wired it and don’t want to find out. In the instruction video the woman says clip the ground cable to the table leg, which is metal, but has nothing to do with outlets, I have this thing I can clip to, very close to me holding up a shelf, very metal, it’s not on the physical ground though.

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07QPR8...

I also have a folding chair with metal legs on the physical ground (but it’s carpet).

Will this achieve anything or did I waste money on the mat?

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2012: Why do I have intermittent battery charging?

I've had multiple issues with charging this MBA. After replacing the battery, (which checks out okay with Coconut scan) I've had a few different results when connecting the MagSafe (genuine Apple adapter). At first the light on the charger wouldn't come on but the battery would charge fully. The light would occasionally turn Amber but never seemed to stay lit. It would even turn green when fully battery was fully charged. I thought it might be a bad charger but I tested a different charger and got same result.

I swapped out the power board but that gave me a worst result. The battery would not charge but the MBA would run on the charger (no lights). I re-installed the original power board but ended up with the same result as the new power board, not charging the battery but working from the charger. With the battery still holding 70% I shut the MBA down and left it connected to the charger ( no lights on). I came back a few hours later to find a bright green light on the charger and a fully charged battery.

I've tried resetting the SMC and PRAM.

Does this sound like a bad power control module on the motherboard? Could it be a bad flex cable?

Watching movie...loud pop...MacBook dead...slight burnt aroma.

These 2 components, which can be seen in attached photo, seem to have popped:

1) Polarized, rectangular, black and marked "33 / 1E2N" (lower left center of photo)

2) Dark grey, square and marked "4.7 UH / 1250AC (upper right of photo)

I would like to ask:

6 - "D' Apple diagnostics - Nothing happens screen stays white

7 - Swapping out the SSD with a known working SSD with the same OS (Catalina) - Nothing Happens still white. (The original SSD is working fine on another machine)

8 - Reconnecting & cleaning the screen & keyboard connector

9 - Cleaning everything inside the said unit / reconnecting all cables etc /

10 - Trying another screen - Nothing Happens still white

11 - Changing batteries - Nothing Happens still white

12- Booting with no keyboard connected - Nothing screen stays white

When the unit is powered off and I connect the charger it powers up by itself.

Connected to an external display at boot has no effect (No signal) odd/

I guess it is once again a logic board issue somewhere along the line.....

The only thing left to do that I can think of is to put the logic board into another same year model using that models components.... maybe it could it be a problem with the keyboard though it seems to be fine? There was never any water damage, internally looked clean, Asking you guys if you can shine some light on what maybe is an easy solution or am I once again to fear the worst.

Command (⌘)-R Install the latest macOS that was installed on your Mac.

Option-⌘-R Upgrade to the latest macOS compatible with your Mac.

Shift-Option-⌘-R Install the macOS that came with your Mac, or the closest version still available. (I get a grey screen with a line down the middle)/

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2012: Sudden screen glitches & freezes, requiring force restart

Hello!

My 2012 MacBook Air (I have the 2.0 GHz dual i7 + 8 GB of RAM model) has, for the last few months, started crashing at random, requiring a force restart.

Out of nowhere, the screen gets glitchy ~ you can see what was there, but its colors & shapes distort. If any audio was playing, it also becomes just a glitchy (loud!) mess. The only solution is to hold down the power switch for 10 seconds and force a restart. Or sometimes it restarts on its own after a few seconds.

The troubleshooting I’ve done:

1) installed a clean OS (Mojave) on a separate partition. Still happens.

2) happens on both battery & two different AC power adapters.

3) happens with & without external peripherals connected (powered USB3 hub, audio interface connected via firewire-thunderbold adapter).

4) I’ve reset PRAM & SMC. No help.

5) happens under heavy & light workloads, even sometimes sitting idle (i’ll return to my desk to find it has restarted itself).

6) sprayed compressed air inside all vents in case something was blocked by dust causing overheating. No help.

7) Ran Repair Disk in Disk Utility after starting up from recovery partition. No results.

What I haven’t done: replace the battery, which reports “Replace Soon”. I don’t want to throw big money at the machine if its logic board is about to die.

Any thoughts? The machine (aside from random crashes) still suits my needs perfectly, and I’d really like to not have to replace it.

Thanks in advance!

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2012: My MacBook air does not turn on?

My macbook air 11" Mid 2012 suddenly does not turn on anymore.

Tried pressing the power button on for 10 secs, released and tried again - no luck

Tried resetting SMC, pressed and held Shift + Control+ Option+ Power buttons. Released the keys at the same time. Then tried turning on the Mac.

Tried resetting NVRAM.

Do not hear fan or any sounds, seem completely dead. When I connect the power adapter the light on the magsafe turns green, but still no sound or power or boot.

Looking for suggestions and next steps.

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2012: Is my SSD faulty or the cable connecting it?

I have the above model A1465 and I get the folder with the question mark upon loading.

I have tried the following:

1) Ran the Recovery feature both from Command+R, and used the internet recovery.

The download finishes and the apple logo comes up and then goes to the OSX utilities options. when I click on the Disk utility it finds "disk0" and underneath Mac OSX Base System, nothing more and all options are greyed out.

2) I have tried to reinstall MAC OSX

This brings up the OS version to install etc (OS X Lion) and gets to the point where it asks which disk to install to - but there are no options here.

So, what is the best methods to troubleshoot the problem (I do not have another mac to try) using a windows system or can you point me to the part numbers needed at least for the connecting cable.

Hope you can help and any is appreciated.

regards

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2012: Some unresponsive (reluctant) keys

Hello there

I am some trouble with the keyboard on my MacBook Air (11-inch , Mid 2012), and I hope some of you have ideas for a solution :). The problem regards certain keys in the right side of the keyboard (for example: Shift, P, Enter and some of the arrow keys) . The problem is not that the keys are not functioning at all, but rather that they are somewhat unresponsive ... this means that (at least for some of the keys) when I press them repeatedly (25-30 times) they start reacting (the Shift key, however, seems to be dead).

I’m considering changing the battery (since the computer indicates that it’s in a replace-soon condition), but am unsure whether this will fix my keyboard problem.

Would appreciate any inputs :)

Thanks!

My question is somewhat similar to the one in this post Why is my keyboard/trackpad not working?, with the difference described above.
