MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011: Is it safe to use MacBook Air without the battery?

Hi everyone, I have a Mid 2011 MacBook Air with a swollen battery since a week ago but I'm still using it until now and apparently it expanded more by day.

I use my laptop everyday because I am working on some papers despite having the battery swollen. I've already made a schedule to replace it next month but I'm wondering since I still need my laptop to do my work, is it safe to remove the battery and using it with the AC power only?

I'm afraid the battery will expand more and it could damage the hardware, so I want to remove the battery and using it directly to power cord.

Thank you.

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011: A1370 2011 MacBook Air Flashing Question mark, no Recovery or Boot

So I know the question mark folder thing has been beaten to death, but I haven't found a forum relating to my issue. It's a Mid-2011 Macbook Air Core i5. One day it stopped booting up and gave me the blank white screen. After about 60 seconds, the blinking folder with a question mark comes on.

Great, no problem. I've tried to boot in recovery mode, I've tried to boot in safe mode, I've tried to reset everything, I created a boot drive with an external drive from my other mac, however when I boot up while holding the option key, nothing comes up. I have absolutely no option to try to boot from the external drive. I even took out the SSD thinking it was still searching there while keeping the external boot drive plugged in, and still, nothing, only a blinking folder with a question mark.

What could this be? I figure even if the SSD or ribbon connecter were fried (likely), I should still be able to boot from the external with the SSD pulled out, right?

Any help you guys can give would be immensely appreciated. Thanks!

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011: Bottom Left Corner of Trackpad Sunken

Through some sort of blunt trauma in my bag, the bottom left corner of the trackpad (where left click would be on normal trackpad) has sunken into the body of the Macbook.

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011: How to fix a broken I/O board power cable socket?

I was following your repair guide MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011 Logic Board Replacement and completely removed the logic board. When installing the new logic board I reached the step 14 to remove the I/O board power cable from its socket. Unfortunately the socket broke off. Is there a way how to connect the cable with the logic board again?

Maybe soldering the cables directly to their target pin? Without proper connection of the socket, the battery cannot charge and the soundcard as well as 1 USB port are disconnected.

Here images of the broken part:

Here the image from your guide at Step_14, how it actually should look like:

Update (02/16/2018)

What do you think about this strategy?

1) Putting back the socket to its original location:

It still fits :-)

2) Filling the connection gaps by soldering:

Does this make sense?

Any tips on the type of solder?

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011: Strange permanent border around the screen

Hi All! I've come across a large quantity of 2011 11" MacBooks Airs, and most of them have a strange line on either the right or the left side (see picture). It's actually not really a line in the usual sense, but more a gap on the screen. It's as if the actual screen display is being squashed to a smaller part of the screen than the whole screen. I have several that literally have a 1" border all the way around the screen, and the display is squashed into a box in the center (I supposed this could be called a 10" Air? :-)

Anyway, I don't anticipate this is repairable, but I wanted to run it by everyone and see what you know about this kind of screen damage. I can't imagine what would cause it, and it's especially strange that I would get dozens of them all with the same kind of problem. To me it looks like a manufacturing defect, but in that case why wouldn't the owner not take them all back to Apple for replacement?

Curious to see what you think.

Thanks!

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011: Keyboard row doesn't work

Whats up guys, I JUST finished changing my battery on my macbook, and now my a s d f g h j k l keys don't work, all other keys work fine. I was wondering if I might have loosened the keyboard cable or something. I'm going to take it apart again and see if anything is loose. Which cable is the one for the keyboard? Thanks.

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011: My Fan Won't Shut Up!

I followed the guide over here:

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011 Upper Case Replacement

and replaced my keyboard for my 2011 macbook air 11". Everything is working great except for one blatant issue. The fan is constantly on full blast, even when there's nothing open and it's cooled down. It seems like the mechanism for detecting when the fan needs to come on, and at what speed, stopped working.

I must have botched something up at some point. I just can't figure out what. I opened it up again to make sure I reinstalled everything correctly and there aren't any loose connections anywhere.

Has anybody had this issue? What can I do to troubleshoot? I've been dealing with this for about 10 months now...lol I really need to get this figured out soon because I'll be selling it.
