Lenovo Thinkpad x230: Power button turning off but not on

My Lenovo thinkpad x230 power button has stopped working to turn my computer on after a shutdown. I can still force start it by attaching the AC when adjusted in BIOS but clearly not ideal when there isn’t a power source available. The power button does however work to shutdown or sleep the computer once on so I don’t understand the issue.

So far I’ve tried a few methods on the internet - taking the battery out, holding the power button for 30 seconds, putting the battery back in but nothing and given that the button still works to power off it isn’t a problem with the plastic button pressing down underneath. The battery is also pretty degraded, only holding 20% of its original capacity so I don’t know if that could be the cause.

I could buy another keyboard for £30 but I’m not even sure that’s the problem so don’t want to waste money if I might as well get a whole new laptop. I’ve also been trying to remap another key to the power button but hasn’t worked. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks

Lenovo Thinkpad x230: Why won't my laptop turn on?

Just to be clear, this is my brother's laptop. Firstly, he has moments where he's accidentally dropped it or slammed it (needless to say he doesn't know how to take care of his stuff). Secondly, he's always torrenting stuff (and we don't have any kind of protection). Third, the laptops are used and have beeb refurbished. And finally, the laptop's charger port is loose.

I've tried to exchange laptop batteries from mine to his; the light doesn't even blink. I've tried to disassemble it, check the charger port, reassemble it (thought not very well, I'm still a newbie); again it doesn't even blink a small light. Nothing. I don't know why it doesn't turn on and I would appreciate if anyone could help me out. Thanks.

Lenovo Thinkpad x230: x230 not booting with new CMOS battery installed

When I install the CMOS battery (new) the laptop won't boot...completely dead. This happens even when I re-install the old battery (I have checked that the battery is full)

If I remove the CMOS battery the laptop turns on normally.

I can use it like this but if the main battery runs out I have to change the date in BIOS every time.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Lenovo Thinkpad x230: Is my motherboard dead?

Suddenly my laptop doesn't start. If I press the power on button, the green light around the button will be ON for less than a second, and then turn off again. Nothing appears on the screen, and the computer doesn't boot.

This is what I have tried so far:

Replacing the DC jack http://amzn.eu/iCpnMz9 because it had been damaged some months ago, and when plugging the power chord, it emitted a weak buzzing sound

Removing the battery and trying to power up with the power chord connected

Testing to charge it with the power chord from a friend that has the same laptop

The three tests failed. I also tried disassembling the computer's parts and searching for loose cables or overheated areas, but couldn't find any.

I guess this means the motherboard is dead, but is there a way to verify that? Can someone pleas provide a good source for it? If it was dead, does it worth replacing it?Any other ideas on what the problem could be?
