Lenovo Thinkpad X220: Lenovo X220 does not start up, start button blinking

Hi ifixit Techies

I have several x220 still running and now the third which has the same problem at startup. After pressing the power button, it just blinks in a 2s period and there is only the harddisk running. No screen, no fan, just the blinking. I already tried to fix it with the procedure to take out the battery and press the power button for 15s several times. no positive result.

It is known that X220 with production dates End 2011 have problem because of a faulty electronic component. Mine has prodction date 11/11 ;-( , other with 11/10

I read in a post, that the mother board might have a progressor power source problem. I don’t have electric plans or manual to the motherboard but can solder and measure.

My idea: When I can change the faulty electronic component on the motherboard, then I am able to fix all my X220 with this error. Others could participate from the solution, since this is a general problem for all X220 with this production date and serial R9-HXXXX .

There are new boards availbale in aliexpress, but I don’t want to spend more money than necessary.

As I have read in many other threads, I could see that it is able to install a mSATA drive into Lenovo X220. But what I wondered and couldn't find the answer is, will install mSATA drive will replace or disable the Wireless function? Because I saw that many thread told to replace the mSATA for the Wireless Card. That Wireless card, is WWAN card, or the WLAN card? Also, is it possible to install and enable all three of them at the same time?

Lenovo Thinkpad X220: X220 Real Time Clock Error after Charging Port Replacement

I replaced the charging port on my X220 with a USB-C mod connector. After reassembling, I get 1 long and 2 short post beeps and a Real Time Clock Error. To rule out the possibility of the USB-C connector being the issue, I reinstalled the original connector and observed the same issue.

When booting, the LCD is extremely dim, and I am only able to see the post error when I connect an external monitor.

I am planning to replace the CMOS battery, but what other things should I consider? Is it possible I damaged something on the system board? Early on the LCD would work at full brightness but would flicker on and off, so I may have damaged the LCD cable.

Lenovo Thinkpad X220: How to remove the backup battery?

I want to reset the BIOS password of my machine.

Reading a Lenovo support guide[1] they say:

"""

1. Turn off the computer.

2. Remove the battery pack.

3. Remove the backup battery. For instructions on how to remove the backup battery, click here.[2]

4. Turn on the computer and wait until the POST ends.

5. After the POST ends, the password prompt does not appear.

6. The POP has been removed.

7. Reinstall the backup battery and the battery pack.

""

Step 3 mention a backup battery. I suppose it is the CMOS battery. In that case: What are the steps required to only remove this battery? If that's not the case: What is it and how to remove it?
