Lenovo Thinkpad T430: 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD) - problem with motherboard

Hi everyone,

Lately I have been getting this problem when booting the computer: "2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD). Press Esc to continue". I used to press Esc and then the computer would boot normally, but the other day when I booted the laptop I just got a black screen and nothing reacting (even if the power button had light, but it would not even switch off). As I did not know what to do, I took the laptop to a technician.

He was trying another hard drive in the laptop to see whether it was a problem with my HDD or with the connector of the motherboard and concluded that the problem was the motherboard and it had to be changed. Basically, the connector is a bit loose, so the HDD moves a bit, what causes the connection problem. As it is quite a lot of money, I decided to take the laptop home and try to figure out a solution.

The solution that I have found is to place two cotton pads from the ones used to remove make up below the HDD, then installing the HDD and place another cotton pad in between the HDD and the sponge that is inside the case. With the added pressure of the pads, the HDD does not move and everything works fine so far. However, I feel that this solution is not the best one. So, I was wondering whether you have better ideas.

Is there any other solution that you can think of so the HDD does not move or to fix the connector without changing the motherboard?

Can you suggest other materials that may be better than a cotton pad?

Cheers!

Lenovo Thinkpad T430: Keyboard and mouse pad not responding.

I had bought a refurbished Lenovo Laptop T430s. I have been using it for a year now and all seems fine until about a month ago the inbuilt mouse pad stopped responding. Then just recently some of the keyboard button stopped responding when I try to type. I don't know if those things mentioned needs replacement or do I just have to update their drivers.

Lenovo Thinkpad T430: ThinkPad T430 suddenly powers off after some time

Hi,

My T430 suddenly powers off. It does not show any sort of warning, blue screen of death or anything else. It just powers off completly. And it does not turns on until the battery is removed and installed again. If it is running on AC power i.e without battery, the power cord has to be plugged out and again plugged in to make it work again.

The time interval to turn off is completely random, sometimes 1 min, 1 hour, 10 sec etc. And it can happen after boot, in bios or anywhere else.

I have confirmed that it is not a heating issue by running a stress test for more than an hour and it worked fine.

I have also tried changing RAM, removing HDD, removing ultrabay disk drive, but doing these does not produce any difference.

I have also tried pressing the power button for 60 sec, but does not make any difference.

Lenovo Thinkpad T430: Why is the on/off button not working?

The on/off button seems to be stuck down. There is no feel to it. I believe it is a mechanical problem, as if there is a spring beneath the button which is broken or misplaced. If I remove the battery there is a small screw which looks as though I could remove a section and access the button from behind but I am not confident to try this.

Lenovo Thinkpad T430: Why is my Lenovo T430 not turning on?

The only issue that my laptop had before this was that the battery drained extremely quickly whenever the ac adapter wasn’t plugged in, with the adapter plugged in, it would work fine. When I tried to turn it on today, it wouldn’t turn on, even with the ac adapter plugged in, the power button wouldn’t even light up. Only the green battery indicator on the exterior of the laptop would light up. I removed the battery and put it back in, that didn’t work at all. How do I fix this?
