I am not sure why, but my left click button is a bit lower than the right click button (and does not make a clicking sound); as a result, makes it difficult to click/use and it does not return back to its position after being pressed.

I'm having issues with the AC adapter on my laptop (as described here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-..., but I've confirmed the ribbon is fully plugged in and it's still not working), and I think it might make sense to replace the DC-in power cable. There's a DC-in component for sale here (Lenovo ThinkPad P50 DC-IN Cable - DC30100PE00), but that's only listed as being compatible with the P50, not the P51.
Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 3: Lenovo P1 Gen 3 Battery won't charge, but work's fine on DC power.

Hello,

My laptop: P1 Gen 3 (type 20TH) Laptop (ThinkPad)

The laptop battery will not charge and slowly depletes, but continues to work just fine plugged in.

I have tried the following

Two different thin port chargers (both work)

USB-C charger (works)

Replaced the battery (didn't make a difference)

Reinstalled battery drivers (no change).

Removing the battery, made no change.

The charging light near the thin plug is amber, indicating that the laptop is charging

In the system tray, the battery status is "plugged in" and if I click the icon the status is "charging"

In Lenovo vantage the battery status is "charging".

In battery report: status is "AC - active" when plugging in and status is "Battery - active" when on battery power alone. There are two instances where status is "connected - standby" as well.

Browsing the forums, I think this is the issue. The P1 Gen 3 is not listed under supported models, yet it was pushed on Lenovo vantage. I did a BIOS update on September 11, 2025 and since then my battery has not worked. I called support, and was told to try a replacement battery and a different charger. As you can see from above, I've done that, so this is currently the most likely culprit

BIOS flashbacks seem to be risky, will there be an updated BIOS that will correct this issue? What are my options to convert my laptop sized desktop into a laptop again?

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-...

Notably this BIOS update was specifically to address a Battery issue for other Lenovo products, but was rolled out on Vantage for my unsupported P1 it looks like.

https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobil...

Currently, I cannot even perform updates as both of my laptop batteries are below 25%, so I can't even do a flashback if I wanted to. Is there a product or service to charge these batteries externally? Or is there a way to get the computer to accept updates only on plug in power?

Update

Talked with Lenovo support, successfully reflashed my bios to the previous version, and did a fresh windows install. Notably the battery firmware update is not compatible with lenovo P1 Gen 3, at least in the documentation, despite it being a recommended update through Vantage. At a minimum there appears to be some issue with documentation as both this driver and the BIOS update were recommended by Vantage and upon reading the documentation a P1 gen 3 is not listed as a supported device.

The battery charging icon now appears for only 10 seconds after restarting the laptop, and then will not charge. No other changes.

Lenovo ThinkPad P71: Thinkpad P71 can't charge sometimes while it's on

I used my P71 for about 8 years and it started to have a charging issue several months ago. The charging indicator is fine, and the battery icon in taskbar shows it already connected to the AC adapter, but it just doesn’t charge sometimes while the laptop is on. It can certainly charge while it’s off.

The charging issue doesn’t happen very frequently, but it still bothers me a lot. I went to my local Lenovo Service Center and they just reinstalled the Windows system again and again... Each installation can make the issue disappear for maybe some days, and then can’t charge again.

My P71 works really fine except this issue, so I really hope to fix that. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Thinkpad P51: Random shutdowns occuring under high load with new ifixit battery

I recently replaced the original battery, which was at around 45% health with a new ifixit battery. The ifixit battery has excellent battery life, however, I've discovered an issue whereby when under a high load when not plugged in, the laptop will randomly shutdown. It does not shutdown gracefully, simply switching to a black screen immediately. I've tested this on a number of relatively resource intensive games, with the same results. This does not occur with the old battery. Lenovo Vantage reports the battery as being in good condition so I'm at a loss as to what is causing this.

I also removed all the static charge by removing the battery and holding the power button but that did not work.

I ordered a new battery popped it in but the laptop still gives the error about battery not being detected.
