Lenovo ThinkPad E540: Why won't my laptop charge?

Anyway, I spilled fluids (soy milk) into my ThinkPad E580. I remember I could still power it up and use it as usual, but when I tried to charge it it won't charge. So consequently when the battery drained out the laptop was as good as dead.

I tried using different power adaptors to charge the laptop, but to no avail. I have tried the usual methods of removing the battery and charger/long press the power button for 30 seconds/and try charging again methods, but no luck there either.

I have since contacted the official Lenovo repair centre, and they upon inspection reported fluid damage (obviously). The repairs they have quoted me were hugely exorbitant, listing repairs from the System Board to the IO Board akin to the reconstruction of the whole laptop, which amounts to more than $2000 AUD. I only bought the laptop brand new for $1400.

I highly believe Lenovo is just trying to rip me off; the machine does not need a complete reconstruction with new parts. It was working fine after the spill, so it indicates the motherboard, HDD etc, are all still working perfectly well, with the only problem being the loss of battery charging. I believe I just need to somehow get the battery to charge. I don't think a new battery is the solution as the battery was working well before (sans charging), but does anyone know what parts I could think of replacing to get it to charge properly? Maybe the replacement of the charging port? Anything else?

I have linked to photos of the inside components of the laptop to show the extent and nature of the damage.

Any help would be much appreciated. I only bought the machine for a year and now its been on the sidelines for half a year. I really love my Thinkpad.

TLDR: Fluid damage, afterwards laptop was working fine but won't charge. Battery drained out and now machine dead.

Lenovo Thinkpad e540: Laptop not turning on but power light flickers

I bought this computer used a few months back, before it suddenly (while using it) randomly shut off and never turned back on again. I tried everything I could possibly think of in terms of fixing it ( remove ram sticks, cmos battery, unplug everything and press power button etc) before just leaving it alone and setting it in my closet. Recently, I've gotten back to it after having a idea that maybe it's the charger that's the issue, and to my surprise, it actually gave me some reaction after using a spare charger. So now, after plugging in the charger to my laptop, the charging light flashes a little. Also the Ethernet port light comes on a bit as well. I'm glad to see it's not dead as I thought it was, but is there any way I can fix this?
