Lenovo G40-70: No power & no display

Hey all,

Today I decided to take a look at an old laptop I had in storage. Its hinge is broken and the battery no longer holds a charge. Last time I turned it on, the charger couldn't stay plugged in due to the hinge constantly moving, so I stowed it away and left it for later.

That later is now, and it won't boot at all.

It's flimsy and the hinge snaps the chassis open, but it still stands upright and is sturdy enough to keep the display propped up. I plugged it to power and the battery charges (red LED at the front lights up, showing no charge) but there apparently is no power. Whenever I press the power button, the power LED lights up briefly alongside the lcd's backlight, and then shuts down.

Does anybody happen to have an idea as to why this might be happening?

Thanks,
