LG V20: LG V20 Black Screen

Woke up this morning and started using my phone, noticed that the screen became unresponsive for a few seconds at a time and then I saw some gray horizontal lines.

Did a battery pull and restarted the phone, however, the screen is completely black and I can still hear the boot sound.

Got past the pin screen and think the phone has fully booted, fingerprint scanner works, I can touch the navigation keys and get feedback and I am still getting notifications.

However, the main screen is still blank and the second screen shows the time surrounded by static surrounded. I have attached a photo.

2nd Screen with partly working

It is the 990ds variant.

Has anyone ever faced this issue? Could it be the display itself and maybe a replacement LCD will fix the issuse?

LG V20: Replacing connector for top antenna?

I damaged the connector for the top antenna on my LG V20 during screen replacement but I am unable to find a supplier for the part. I am not even sure what to call it and was hoping someone might know as I cannot connect to my wireless carrier since the phone repair. The part, a sticker which I believe connects the top antenna to the bumper, is circled in red in the image I linked.

LG V20: How can I get my display to work again?

My screen came out so I took the phone apart and re-glued the screen with some 1mm 3M tape. Now I reassembled it and it vibrates on boot and I can see the backlight go on because a corner of the screen is broken off… Also WhatsApp Web works. So the phone is definitely working, but the display isnt showing anything (Backlight does work tho)… I re-checked the main screen connector at the bottom and it is properly plugged… what can I do?

P.S.: I followed this tutorial for the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDEZjsqN...

LG V20: USB C port replacement

What is involved in replacing a damaged UCB-C port on the LG V20? Actually, I could ask a similar question for my iPhone 6S Lightning port. It's been pointed out that one advantage to "wireless" charging is the reduction of wear on power sockets. With daily use, that would be around 700 plug ins over a two year period, so wonder if this comes up often as an issue, and if so, how to replace a damaged power port.

LG V20: Battery not charging, but phone gets very hot instead.

Hi. I’m trying to figure out the cause of the issue with my V20. I will describe it and I’m hoping to learn what I need to replace to get it working again. First off, I tried this with multiple batteries, and multiple chargers, so it’s not that. I also performed a full factory reset, and ran it in safe mode, so it’s probably not related to software. So, here’s what’s happening: it’s heating up very hot, even when turned off and not plugged into a charger. When I do plug a charger in, the battery percentage does not increase, but instead the phone gets extremely hot, so much so that it’s painful to push the power button.

I’m hoping someone in iFixit has encountered this and knows what’s wrong with it.

Thanks in advance,

LG V20: Bad backlight - chances it's the screen not the main board?

Hi everyone, got a water damaged phone on my hands! Any advice would be awesome! The top backlight still works - as a matter of fact I'm typing this on it! Problem is the main bottom backlight isn't functioning, so it's impossible to use in day light. When the phone was submerged it was powered off. I cleaned the main board with isopropyl, but obviously there was quite a large amount of water underneath the screen that never seemed to dissipate until two weeks. Mainboard doesn't appear to have any serious stand out issues from visual inspection and everything else works fine. So my main question is for all the experienced cell phone repair people out there... How often are backlight issues just the screen itself? There's quite a bit of electronics on the back of it let alone the LEDs. It seems to me from reading that it rarely is, and is probably the main board's fault. The reason I ask is because I can find LG v20 screens with the midframe online for around C$100, but the return policy states unless its defective I can't return it. Should I just do it anyways and return it if doesn't work? I phoned all the cell phone repair shops in my city and none of them carry extra screens, but they can order one and if it works charge $250+ for something so trivial. Is it worth trying? Or is it almost gaurenteed to be the main board? Thanks everyone

LG V20: LG V20 no gps signals

Does anyone know how to fix the LG V20 that can't pickup any GPS signals?

I tried to tighten all of the screws in the back plate, clean the contact terminal (even pushed it up a little bit) and the antenna terminal. In addition, I have tried the Aluminum trick by adding a layer of Aluminum between the antenna's terminal and the phone's contact terminal. None of these tricks fixed the issue. Also, I reset the phone, but no lucks. Any suggestions/recommendations are greatly appreciated.

LG V20: After speaker replacement the device still has no sound

I just ordered a new loud speaker for an LG V20 that was not functioning. After I installed the new speaker it still has no volume.
