LG G6: Digitizer damage or logic board - which is more likely?

Hi all,

I have an LGUS997 G6+, which was recently water damaged. Initially the screen was not working at all, but after removing corrosion from the display connector and a few other spots with 99% isopropyl alcohol, the display now works fine, but the touch input is still not working.

I'd say about 85% of the time, there's no response to touch, or there is a response but it's too brief to actually trigger any UI elements. About 5% of the time it works correctly, and the remaining 10%, touching the screen triggers sort of ghost touches - the device recognises the input but in a different part of the screen, often in multiple different spots at once, with no consistent pattern. I haven't seen any true ghost touches, i.e. input being recognised when there's no actual touch.

My intuition is that these particular symptoms point more towards the digitizer being damaged than the logic board, although I know the only way to find out for sure is to replace the parts. So I have two questions:

In your experience, am I right to think the digitizer is more likely to be at fault, or is it just as likely to be the logic board?

Is it safe to immerse the screen assembly in isopropyl? I have seen advice not to do this with iPhones because the alcohol will damage a coating on the screen, but I don't know if that would also apply to this device.

Thanks for reading, any other suggestions also gratefully accepted.

LG G6: Camera does not work after replacment

My cameras do not work after replacing both of the rear camera in my LG G6. I get a camera fail error and my default flashlight does not work as well. The only way for me to get it somewhat working is to hold the camera and button and pick selfie camera. I get the flash light working if I manually turn the flash on. Does this only give me access to the wide angle camera. I have tried a hard reset, safe mode, updated firmware. Only way to get the camera going 100% is to install the old camera modules. Am I missing a step? Faulty camera modules?

LG G6: Can SIM ejector tool damage top mic if inserted into mic hole?

Hi,

Can the top microphone be damaged by inserting the SIM ejector tool (pin) to the hole with the mi and applying some pressure to it? I ask, because I didn't manage to find the information how the microphone tunnel ends (solid material, membrane, metal, plastic etc).

I've made some mic tests. The top microphone seems to work fine, although the gain level is slightly smaller (the noise level is the same), comparing to the bottom one, which (I hope) was not touched.

Don't ask my how did it happen :-(

LG G6: H870 screen replacement also for H870DS model?

Hey guys,

Few days ago I dropped my phone on the floor. Unfortunately, the glass got cracked and as such I would like to get it fixed.

This is slightly problematic. I bought the phone overseas (Hong Kong) to get the H870DS model. However, I live in Europe and they only sell the H870 version here (if im correct) and also on this website they do not offer the H870DS option. Therefore I would like to ask if the H870 screen LCD part - which they do offer on this site - can be used to replace my cracked screen.

Thanks in advance!

Yours sincerely,
