LG G6: Moisture Detected, Charging is blocked.

Hi, my father has an LG G6, and it has been saying moisture detected and prevented the device from charging. We have tried MANY things, putting it in a bag of rice even though he knew he didn't drop it in water or anything, using compressed air, rubbing alcohol in the port, WD40, EVERYTHING we could find online. But we have heard you can shut off the moisture detection, BUT all the videos we find are of different carriers "secret menu codes" so we can't figure it out. We have sprint, any help we can get? This seems to be a very common issue with the G6. I personally NEVER buy LG phones, because I know all the issues they have had in the past and present.

LG G6: How can I disable the proximity sensor in my LG Q6?

Okay, I have an LG Q6 (not the G6) but Q6 was not an option in the device list on this forum. Guess the phone is newer than the list.

Anyways, proximity sensor. Normally, one can turn that off (disable it) in the call settings under the phone app. Unfortunately, I do not see such an option on the Q6.

The purpose of the proximity sensor is to turn off the screen when you put the phone to your ear so you ear doesn't touch the "touch screen" and hang up calls. (You can just as easily tap the power button quickly to turn off the screen before putting it to you ear but LG thought a proximity sensor might automate things a bit.)

The problem I have, is that I have a severe visual impairment so I often have to put the phone's screen inches from my eyes to see it and, as a consequence, the proximity sensor shuts the screen off. Bloody !&&*.

I just want to disable the proximity sensor completely and there's no option in settings. And yes, I've looked MANY times.

LG G6: Digitizer damage or logic board - which is more likely?

Hi all,

I have an LGUS997 G6+, which was recently water damaged. Initially the screen was not working at all, but after removing corrosion from the display connector and a few other spots with 99% isopropyl alcohol, the display now works fine, but the touch input is still not working.

I'd say about 85% of the time, there's no response to touch, or there is a response but it's too brief to actually trigger any UI elements. About 5% of the time it works correctly, and the remaining 10%, touching the screen triggers sort of ghost touches - the device recognises the input but in a different part of the screen, often in multiple different spots at once, with no consistent pattern. I haven't seen any true ghost touches, i.e. input being recognised when there's no actual touch.

My intuition is that these particular symptoms point more towards the digitizer being damaged than the logic board, although I know the only way to find out for sure is to replace the parts. So I have two questions:

In your experience, am I right to think the digitizer is more likely to be at fault, or is it just as likely to be the logic board?

Is it safe to immerse the screen assembly in isopropyl? I have seen advice not to do this with iPhones because the alcohol will damage a coating on the screen, but I don't know if that would also apply to this device.

Thanks for reading, any other suggestions also gratefully accepted.

LG G6: Broken sim card tray stuck in G6

Hello,

I have recently somehow broke my sim card tray and part of the tray and remained stuck inside the phone as the rest of the tray came out. I can manage to move part of the frame with the sim card key, but what's holding the piece inside the slot is the very end. It sort of wraps in an L shape if you can picture that. I really do not want to risk disassembling my phone, as I am paranoid I will damage something. The sim card AND the microSD can no longer be read. Im guessing it's due to this piece being stuck.

Thanks,

LG G6: SIM / SD Reader solder pads torn off board

Hello fixers,

I screwed up - can anyone help?

I attempted to replace the sim/sd reader on this phone. (The reader had been damaged by a broken sim tray; a piece of the tray was completely stuck in the back of the reader, and one of the contacts for the sim had snapped off).

I set to work removing the broken reader: flux on, taped surrounding area, and heated up with a rework hot air gun. The solder seemed reluctant to let go, and I was worried I was overheating other components. I pulled too hard on the reader and ripped a bunch of pads off the board. (It’s amazing what you can achieve with a lot of inexperience).

Please see pictures. There is a total of 10 pads pulled out, plus one which has half lifted.

There is nothing else wrong with this phone, and I would like to fix it if at all possible; however it's not worth spending much money on, so I don't really want to send it away - I would rather have a go at it myself. I know its beyond my current skill level to guarantee a good result, but I would like to have a shot at it just for the sake of learning, and if it works, it’ll be a bonus and I'll be a very happy chap!

Can this be repaired, or is it impossible?

Where and how do these pads connect - i can't see any traces?

Do I need a schematic for this board? ( I have tried scouring cyberspace without any luck, but maybe looking in the wrong places).

Do the 8 pads round the edge of the Reader need a different approach to the 2/3 pads which are for the microSD contacts?

Any advice, comments, etc from all the gurus out there would be very much appreciated.

Thankyou!
