The LG logo start up screen comes on for a second then it goes black and does this repeatedly. The same thing happens when i charge it. The charging icon appears and then flashes on and off. I am not concerned about the phone. What I do want to know it how can I retrieve my photos?

LG G3: Screen dim (after "baking" CPU)

Hello everyone,

first, some context: I’ve got LineageOS installed on my phone and a few days ago, it just started bootlooping: it displayed the LG logo for a long time, then it showed the Lineage boot animation for a bit and then restarted. I installed a backup, then I completely reinstalled Lineage, but it still didn’t work. I then found out that it’s probably because of a bad battery or due to the CPU’s solder points becoming bad due to the CPU getting hot. The battery is only about a year old, so I tried “baking” the CPU (I’ve had the thermal pad mod on the cpu for quite some time but maybe that’s not eneough to prevent this problem). By that I mean I took a hot air gun and pointed it at the CPU and the storage chip. After that, the phone booted up again, but the screen was very dim. After a day, it went bootlooping again, so I used the hot air gun again, but this time more thoroughly. It has now been working for two days (which doesn’t mean that the CPU won’t come loose again, apparently baking is only a temporary fix) but the screen was still just as dim.

When I say dim, I mean the screen still emits some light, so the backlight is still working, I guess. It’s just not nearly enough. I noticed it on the first boot up: even the LG logo was dark. I can use the phone indoors, but outdoors when it is sunny it is unusable. Moving the brightness slider still changes the brightness, so that is still working, the screen is just overall way too dark. I didn’t enable any energy saver mode. When I wake the phone up, it is sometimes a bit brighter than other times (still not as bright as it should be, though). Auto-brightness is turned off.

Due to the symptoms I’m thinking that it is a hardware problem.

If the backlight filter, the diode (or the coil for that matter ;) ) died, would that kill the backlight entirely, or could it cause a dim backlight like I have? I don’t think I disconnected/connected the display cable while the battery was still plugged in, but I’m not sure.

Could it be that the whole problem is related to the CPU still not having proper contact with the pads?

Could I have damaged the part that creates the voltage/power for the backlight circuit, thus reducing the power for the backlight?

The whole board looks clean, I didn’t spot any water damage. The pins of the screen connector are also intact.

I was thinking about meassuring continuity on the backlight filter or maybe meassuring the voltage that comes into the backlight circuit, but I couldn’t find schematics with this info.

Thanks!

—Update 10.07.2021 —

I replaced the screen with a known good one. The backlight was still very dim. So there’s almost definitely a problem with my motherboard.

LG G3: Won't power on not recognized by pc

I have an LG g3 I had someone bring me to try to pull data off of. Normally I'd just say it's dead and you're sol. I tried booting with battery in, and plugged into wall power, no go. No charger light shows, plugged into pc and it's not recognized. I haven't tried a new battery yet but I did try booting without battery and no go. I seems YouTube video that said it's the power button and common on these g3 and G4 I had a G4 myself personally this same thing happened to. I would not mess with it at all but the data is of a girl that was 7 that died. I'm trying to pull the data with my heart going out to the owner that this is where a lot of pictures of her are from before she passed away. I wanted to at least try everything in my power to get the data recovered. I seen a YouTube video but the dudes head is in the way of how he pressed the connectors on the Mobo to get it to boot. I also seen someone say something about putting it in the freezer to get it to boot. Haven't tried that yet. Has anyone run into this and is it usually the battery, power button, or what is common to try to see if I can at least get it to boot once to get the data. I assume there's no other way to pull data off of it if it isn't recognized via USB. I have plenty of forensic investigator tools but if I can't get it to power up or be recognized via USB I figure their a crap shoot. Could it be the usb port went bad? Looking for suggestions and recommendations to try to help this lady out. I planned to charge for the recovery if I fixed it or got them but hearing this story I don't have the heart to do that.

LG G3: Screen randomly going to sleep Android

Hello, I have recently been experiencing my screen randomly turning off. It doesn't shut off, I just press the power button twice to wake it up, but this is extremely annoying. Especially when I'm watching Twitch or YouTube, it'll just randomly go to sleep. I have tried booting it in safe mode, and the issue isn't there. I. Also found out that the app Reddit was affecting it, so I deleted it. AND THE ISSUE STILL PERSISTS! This is extremely annoying and I would really like the assistance of a professional. Thank you very much. Please respond to this as soon as possible.

Solutions I tried:

-safe mode

-battery off for 10 seconds

-rice…?

-hard factory reset

I'd really like to be able to use this phone as it is my only way of communication at the moment and I cannot pay for a new battery, screen, etc. I hope this gets responded to soon.
