Salter 1036 BKSSDR: Incorrect battery makes it seem this is broken

Summary answer: CR2016 physically fit, but won't work - double-check that you have the right battery!

Hopefully not too naive a question, and I have the answer: using a CR2016 instead of a CR2032 will make it physically feel as if you've added a fresh new battery, but it won't work.

I ended up coming on here to try (and then succeed) to open the device up, only to try a battery swap to prepare to test anything I might do to fix it, and then find that everything was actually fine!

Kitchen Scale: out2 error-Williams and Sonoma Kitchen Scale

I've got a Touchless Tare Scale from W&S and after power on, it only shows the 'out2' error which according to the manual means overweight. The manual doesn't have any indication of being able to recalibrate, and I've tried various combinations of power cycling and button pressing with no luck. I've done a teardown and there's no indication of water or any other damage to the circuit boards, wires or the individual sensors based on my limited experience. Hoping someone else out there has some advice on how I might be able to bring this back to life.

Salter 1036 BKSSDR: Water has got into the LCD display and discoloured it dirty brown.

I would like to be able to open these scales to dry out the LCD display, but I can't see how to get into the unit. Looking under the six rubber feet reveals nothing and peeling back the info sticker on the base reveals two large screws which I think are calibration screws.

Has anyone opened these scales that could help please?
