Kindle Voyage: Attempt at reanimation after bad update

A couple of years ago I left wifi on my Voyage on overnight and it connected to the Amazon services, downloaded an updated and attempted to install it all by itself. However, the update progress stopped at around 15% and the whole device was basically bricked. When I try to reboot or reset it with the power button it always reboots into the update, starts installing it again and freezes again at 15%. When I try to connect it to the computer, the computer does not see it. When I wait for the battery to fully die and then connect it to the computer, the computer sees that there is a device connected, but I cannot do anything with it as there is no option to access the storage or mount it or anything of the sort.

I have attempted pretty much all hacks available on the internet and contacted Amazon support, who told me it's a corpse, gave me a 200 dollars for a new devices and I kinda accepted that Voyage is now a paperweight right next to the new paperwhite. However, I recently came across the idea of jailbreaking the kindle and thought I might try it with the Voyage and see if there is any way of reanimating it.

So what I want to ask, does anyone know if I can do some kind of full factory reset, even with a wipe? Or if there is clear cmos kind of button inside? I don't mind disassembling it if I could fix it. Maybe there is a way to bypass the OS on the device and directly connect memory storage to the computer or some kind of microcontroller programmer so I can manipulate files directly?

Kindle Voyage: Kindle Voyage charge port replacement

All the kindles seem to have custom charge ports but I'm not able to find a replacement for the Voyage.

Does anyone know if this exists somewhere as a more generic part? Or know of a repair shop that can successfully replace it - online or Chicago, IL? The ones I've called say they wouldn't be able to locate the part.

I'm considering buying a second Voyage for parts and having the ports swapped (this is about data recovery)

Kindle Voyage: How to fix battery not charging and frozen screen?

Hello! I've had a Kindle Voyage that stopped working a little while back after a period of disuse. I didn't have any issues with battery life before, but I tried to charge my battery and it wouldn't charge (would just have the yellow LED light up), and thus decided that I should replace my battery.

I replaced my battery and charged overnight, but I still have the same issue.

Some additional details:

Screen is frozen

I would hold the power button while the Kindle charged. The screen would light up, but the charging LED would turn off. I'd let go of the button and the screen would turn off.

With the new battery, the LED would be green when unplugged. I'd hold down the power button and the green LED would turn off as well. I'd hold it down again, and it would turn back on.

Attached are some photos:

Kindle Voyage: Removing Back on Voyage - Now 6 years old

I’m attempting to remove the back on my Voyage in order to replace the battery. The videos from iFixit and others toss off removing the back as just sliding it down. That isn’t working on my now venerable Voyage (they were made when it was new). I’ve tried unsealing the side seam by running an iFixit triangular plastic shim, but am not having much luck. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the back off without busting the device. I assume the age is the problem with the seams welding shut.

I got a new battery from ifixit which I thought would do the trick, but the symptoms are still the same: when plugged in it gives the “battery” icon (unchanged for days at a time), and the screen basically stays on with a flicker to a dark battery every 20 seconds.

Kindle Voyage: My Voyage won’t charge properly.

My Voyage won’t charge properly.

The original symptom was the Kindle was fully charged, but the battery charge literally went from full to zero in under an hour, with the LED blinking orange even when plugged in.

A blinking orange light is known as an aborted charge, usually indicating a bad battery or cable. It’s neither.

Initially I thought it was a bad battery and replaced it. The new battery had a factory charge, and the Voyage booted right up. Unfortunately in about an hour, I was back to square one - the battery was completely drained, and the Kindle was blinking orange again when charging - on USB (connected to a computer) or the original factory plug.

Anyone have suggestions? My kid’s Kindle Voyage (wifi only - mine is 3G) screen just broke, so I have spare parts now. I’m thinking it’s motherboard related - of course Amazon is useless. I’ve long since replaced my Voyage with an Oasis, but I still miss it. Other thought is to take my old Voyage and swap broken screens.

Kindle Voyage: Water Damage- Touch Screen Unresponsive

Kindle Voyage: Do I just have a broken screen, or is my motherboard also broken?

Hi,

I accidentally leaned on my Kindle with my elbow.

I heard a small pop (from the Kindle, not my elbow), and now it looks like this:

Lots of horizontal lines and a few thin vertical lines across screen

One small patch where it looks like the screen has been cracked (circled)

No damage to the front glass

Backlight comes on for about 15 seconds, goes off for a second, then comes back on, in an endless cycle. Image on screen doesn’t change at all. Video: https://photos.app.goo.gl/dc8S1D3qLuWTjZ...

No vibration when page-press buttons are pressed

Charging LED comes on orange when USB connected

Computer doesn’t recognise as a USB device when plugged into

Discharging, charging, holding power button for 8 seconds, holding power button for 2 minutes, disconnecting and reconnecting battery (by unplugging internal ZIF connector), all make no difference.

Is this normal for a Kindle that has broken screen but motherboard is still ok? Or is it likely the motherboard is also broken?

Would like to be reasonably confident that motherboard is still ok before I go out and buy a replacement screen.

Thanks in advance!
