1997-2001 Jeep Cherokee: Intermittent stalling immediately after starting or punching gas

There is gas, the starter is fine, the battery is good. It doesn't matter what temperature the engine is or how long between starts but if I rev up the engine while cranking it starts okay. Rarely I have to rev at stops or the idle drops too low and stalls. If I punch the gas very quickly it revs and drops quickly and then stalls. Starting has a success rate of about 50% without revving. If it stalls, I must rev the engine to start.

1997-2001 Jeep Cherokee: Power Sunroof non-operational, motor turning but seems off track

The power sunroof in my 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee all of the sudden became non-operational. At first, the motor was clicking loudly, but the glass would not slide. Now when I engage the switch, the motor sounds as if it is turning, but nothing moves like it is off track or perhaps cables that use to be connected are not now. Is it possible to repair/replace the motor, etc?

1997-2001 Jeep Cherokee: How do I quiet a squeaky car door?

I drive a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, and recently I noticed my passenger doors are very squeaky when opening an closing.

What is the best way to remove this squeak?

I've heard certain lubricants work better than others, and some shouldn't be used at all because they will hurt the actual hinges and remove the grease in the hinge.

1997-2001 Jeep Cherokee: Won't Idle Correctly After Attempted Repair-What Next

I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L ( XJ ) limited trim. It will not idle correctly. below the regular RPM or above..... i replaced the idle position sensor and had the IAC system reset by a friend who is a mechanic. ( idle sensor was to blame, to keep my question short). Everything seemed to be quite fine having done this yesterday. Even seemed to run better/stronger.

Until this mourning when it would not idle at all.... until i started and held the gas down above idle speed for about 60seconds. Also does not idle at a consistent speed and occasionally idles rough.

I will be doing a tune up over the weekend since it is due, which is fairly easy with no plug wires etc just the ignition pack over the plugs.

I am not sure if this will help with my current problem since the computer should correct within reason for any ignition timing if i had bad plugs? yea?

If anyone has any ideas? let me know. If i had a bad part in the ignition system it would throw a code? and the check engine light has yet to come on and everything checked out ok just yesterday.

I recently repaired my speaker in the driver side front door of my 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport but when I put the inside panel back on the door lock won't work. The inside lock button is stuck in the on position (but the door is not locked) and will not move and the key lock will not lock the door. If I take the panel off and disconnect the cables to the lock, the lock works per using the cables and the key also works. Its like every time I put the inside panel back on something is out of line. I know I am connecting the cables correctly as it is impossible to get them backwards. The power lock locks the other doors but not this one although I hear it working. I really think this is mechanical, not electrical. I also don't believe the cables got bent as they are pretty heavy duty. I am wondering if something happened to the levers where the cable connects to door. I did the same thing to passenger door, while trying to fix that speaker, but everything went back together without a hitch.

1997-2001 Jeep Cherokee: Is a vehicle still drivable with a bypassed heater core?

I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4WD 6 Cylinder and lately I've been having alot of issues with it overheating on me. I can only drive it about 2 miles from my house before it overheats and coolant starts flowing out. About a month and a half ago my dad and I replaced the Clutch Fan, Thermostat, Serpentine Belt, & Water Pump now the Heater Core is out on it so my dad is going to bypass the Heater Core and I know that I will no longer have heat but that's not an issue at the moment. However I'm questioning if I'm going to be able to drive the Jeep with a bypassed Heater Core because I dont quite know what all happens when you bypass a Heater Core. If anyone could shed some light on this I would greatly appreciate it.

1997-2001 Jeep Cherokee: Idle problem remains a odd frustrating headache after much work.

I had posted a problem about this before.... and proclaimed my victory after a tune up........ then back to the same issues the next day.

SO, i have replaced the idle position sensor. Cleaned the throttle body but not off the intake clean, but cleaned it.

also the tune up mentioned above.

and no codes, computer isn't throwing back any codes not sure if computer keeps track of this.

When first started for the day,it's ok..... idles a bit high and settles down once warmed up a bit...... so if i keep driving it around and not turn it off it seems to be ok for the most part..... sometimes once it gets up to normal operating temp. it will idle a bit low.

SO i turn it off and start it right back up last week at mechanic's shop and it works just fine of course.

most of the time if i go out and get back in it to go home etc. it either won't start without pushing on the gas, reving it a bit, or kinda driving with both feet.

When this thing acts up you can put it in drive and it idles so low it will learch forward bit at a time.

So if anyone has any ideas, let me know....... I would test for a vacuum leak but don't know how to do that.

Could it be a intermittent problem with the crank position sensor? I had that go bad before but usually the jeep just won't start or runs messed up.

I also can't understand the odd sometimes working behavior....... and no consistent problem to find a solution.

this isn't a 1986 jeep with a carb or something, so not sure whats going on, this sort of can't figure it out stuff should be behind us with OBDII etc? i dont intend to go on any sort of rant but this has been a problem for a long enough now.

ALMOST FORGOT: 2000 jeep cherokee 4.0L ( with the coil packs not regular ignition plug wires etc) ..... its a limited XJ trim, that shouldn't matter but thats what it is.

1997-2001 Jeep Cherokee: Starts fine then barely runs, then after one day runs fine?

I recently bought a 1997 Jeep Cherokee XJ as a work vehicle. Motor is rebuilt and has approximately 8,000 miles on it. I started it up one day and it started like normal, then once I started driving it it kept wanting to quit and did a couple times. I thought at first it could be the fuel pump, then after letting it sit for a day it ran perfectly fine. If it was the fuel pump wouldn’t it be doing this constantly?Could it have been water in the gas?? I have been playing on it a little bit, including driving through lots of mud pits and puddles. Anyone think it could be anything else besides water in fuel??
