I would like help in solving a problem that I am having with my “Camcorder.” I will describe the problem that I am having with this machine in detail.

The camcorder is a “Sony JVC GR-D250U”

It was stored for many years with the battery connected to it, and recently I turned it on to put some of my “miniDV” tapes in its tape loading compartment to see what I had on them.

I tested all the miniDV tapes that I have for it by opening and inserting these miniDV tapes in the loading compartment with the battery and the power cable connected to the camcorder at the same time. After I tested all of my miniDV tapes, the following message appeared on the camcorder's LCD screen:

"Remove and Reattach Battery Unit in Safeguard Mode" code "06"

I did exactly what this message says to do, with this single battery that I have, and nothing changed, I kept getting the same message and I could not see the content that I had recorded on each of these miniDV tapes for this camcorder.

I believe the last time this camcorder was used, was back in 2009.

How do I solve this problem?

Having recently used the camcorder to replay and record most of my C-Cassettes into a DVD HDD, this sudden fault forced me to try utilising JVC's excellent 'conversion-to-full-size tape' Adapter, in a well-known up-market manufacturer's VCR.

Sadly it seems the JVC's auto head-cleaning facility is apparently considered unnecessary in the full-size tape playing VCR market, and one seriously mauled C-tape later, I'm now desperately keen to overcome the otherwise so-far perfect camcorder's power-failure.

Can anyone please help?

Yes. Those "crust' also made into the inside of the array, and I need to clean it. The 3rd image couldn't catch that much, but you'd know if you saw it with your own eyes. It also bugs me to have dirt on such an ancient device.

I've tried brushing that with an old toothbrush and some lens cleaner (iso alcohol is not found here, but I will look for it as hard as possible), but no luck.

UNIT IN SAFEGUARD MODE

REMOVE AND REATTACH BATTERY

I no longer have the battery and was curious if there is a bypass.

It has numerous issues, but if I can get the viewfinder working, I believe I can fix the other issues.

I can turn the camera on and off, eject the tape, etc, but the display never starts. I found a working solution to power it, so that shouldn't be the issue.

I should also mention that the camera's tape drive seems to be a little... off. Does the tape drive use belts on this particular camera?

I'm hoping the viewfinder is an easy fix, since it's the only display I can use without spending more money.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I'm hoping someone here knows the answer, or, at the very least, the location of a free service manual, because I'm totally lost at this point.

Can I do this myself? I’m not sure what peg it goes on in there, and I need a way to keep it on now if I can, in fact, get it back in there. I’ve read stuff about a ballpoint pen tube cut just right. Does anyone have a diagram of the innards/image of where this goes and advice on getting it back in?? Bought it used “great condition” to transfer tapes to digital and worked great for one tape, then this fell out. Don’t/can’t dump any more money into this. :/

When I plug in the battery, the cam only boots on the charging screen, displaying usb/power supply, even if there is no cable connexion. I can not start any recording. Any idea ?

Even if Google is my friend, i search deep but no success.

Can someone give some links ?
