Hi, i recently bought the JBL Xtreme 2 this black friday and happened to come upon a problem. The speaker randomly cuts off all sound for maybe half a second to a second. I also want to add that i mostly use the aux so it is weird that this keeps happening

JBL XTREME: Does my (Sound bar) JBL cinema sb160 need a new power supply

THE DEVICE IS NOT LISTED

THIS IS A “JBL CINEMA SB160”

Hello thank you for looking at my post I looked everywhere on the web and couldn’t find a solution. I have two JBL soundbars and sub woofers both the same model JBL cinema sb160. One works one doesn’t!

I replaced the dead fuses in the main plug to the soundbar for both my sb and woofer this was caused by a faulty power rail that is now replaced. Sound bar does not turn on when plugged in to mains, has no lights or response to inputs. Sub woofer has a flashing light and pairs with my identical sound bar.

I tested the output of the sb power supply disconnected from the motherboard pcb. It has a 17.5V output. The plug says it is rated for 30W and 2.5A. Does this seem right or can I use a laptop charger perhaps 12V for this to work? OR is the motherboard pcb faulty and i scrap the thing.

TLDR: The plug is rated for 30W and 2.5A but the power supply reads 17.5V disconnected from the mb pcb does this seem right?

Close up shots of the power supply:

Hi everyone,

I changed the battery in my JBL Xtreme half a year ago: [SOLVED] Horrible sound after battery replacement.

The speaker was working perfectly up until now, it seems to be very inconcistent with charging. When I opened it up I saw the whole BMS board was oxidized. (From using too much flux)

Update (06/21/2018)

There's a video about this by Abrar Akram that explains it in more detail: LINK

These are 2 compatible boards that can be found on Aliexpress that are very cheap 'HX-2S-D01' and 'HX-2S-A10'

I made a diagram for the wiring, 2 sources confirmed this to be correct.

JBL XTREME: jbl xtreme speaker wont turn on unless plugged

This speaker was working GREAT until a few months ago. It was a gift I received about a year ago. I have a JBL Xtreme speaker that will no longer turn on unless I have the charger cord plugged into the outlet. Once I disconnect the plug from the outlet it will automatically turn off. I have tried to reset it holding the connect and + volume button down till the LED lights in the bottom turn on. Then unplug the cord from the speaker and it turns off. Watched a few YouTube videos on resetting, lock/unlock and tried that , but still will not have any power unless the cord is connected. The first LED light always stays blinking as if it’s still charging, but never stops blinking. Speaker must no longer hold the charge… Please help me if you have anything in mind. Thank you.

JBL XTREME: Why is my bluetooth speaker randomly turning off? (JBL Xtreme)

Recently I've been experiencing some difficulties with my JBL Xtreme. The device will randomly turn off after about half an hour or so when not charging, even when fully charged. When it turns off I am able to start it again, but the problem only gets worse and it'll turn off again after only a couple of minutes. Eventually it becomes impossible to start at all until it's plugged back into the charger again. It boots up fully charged as well after that.

The device is about a year old and the problem occurs both while connected via bluetooth and via AUX. It's well taken care of too.

What could possibly be causing this problem? Does the device believe that its battery has been drained or something? I'm really at a loss, and appreciative of all help I can get.

JBL XTREME: How to reconnect power ribbon cable?

JBL XTREME: [SOLVED] Horrible sound after battery replacement.

Hi everyone,

I bought a JBL Xtreme in Australia, after 4 months the battery broke. I contacted JBL when I was in Belgium but they refused warranty because I bought the speaker in a different country.

So I decided to fix it myself! (if you want to skip the processes go to part 2)

I followed this diagram:

When I tested it I got 3.5V on each battery, yet when I tested the voltage on the connector I got nothing. I tried it inside of the speaker but nothing happened probably because the BMS board got too hot.

The day after I measured the voltage on the battery again and suddenly got 7.2V! So I put it inside of the speaker and it worked!! So I charged the speaker completely and the final voltage when it automatically cut of was 8.3V

I played the speaker like this for 1 hour on low volume to see if the battery got hot but all was good, so i tried to reassemble the speaker and I saw it wouldn't fit. So I trimmed a bit of the plastic of and realized it was the battery's circuit board that was too big.

So I moved the BMS board to the inside of the speaker and put some foam around the batteries so they wouldn't vibrate or get damaged when falling.

Part 2

Then I put electrical tape around the circuit board and hot glued it to the side. I re-assembled the speaker completely and let the BMS board cool down all night. The morning after the speaker still didn't do anything so I briefly connected it to power and it worked again.

Then I went outside to test the speaker loud and I could immediately hear something was wrong I heard some vibration like there's something loose inside or the woofer is broken. When I came home I opened up the speaker and checked everything but there's nothing loose and neither the battery or the circuit board touch anything they shouldn't touch. I also re-checked the voltage on the battery and it was at 7.5v I don't know when exactly this started because the first time I didn't play the speaker loud.

So what did go wrong? Is it just the 18650 batteries that give too much power which made the woofers blow or is it some other component? Or did I do something else wrong?

Here are 2 examples of the sound:

EDIT 1: Solved

It seemed the problem was air escaping from a hole in the front, I used some of the black gum inside the speaker to re-seal it. I also sealed the hole where the battery's cable comes out of. I also moved the BMS board back into the battery compartment and screwed it very tight.

It's crazy how a bit of air escaping could make the speaker sound so horrible! Although on some tracks it still doesn't sound right but I don't have another JBL Xtreme to compair it too, so maybe it's just me :P

JBL XTREME: When connected to a device it immediately turns off

Hello!

I have a problem with a JBL Xtreme speaker. I have had it for over 5 years. Now it keeps turning off, so I replaced the battery, but unfortunately it didn't solve the problem. I have also tried hard resetting the device several times. As long as I don't connect any device to the bluetooth it has no problems. With Aux it works perfectly fine. However, when I connect it with bluetooth it looks like it freezes and if the device is on charge the power button lights up white, if it is on battery it turns off completely. (I've tested without the battery, it doesn't work.) I've looked at several solutions but none of them work.

Anyone have any ideas?

JBL XTREME: Broken USB Port, Repair Possible?

Hi, as you can see, one of the USB Charging Ports on my JBL Xtreme has 2 out of 4 pins crooked in there and it’s missing the little plastic thing that hold the other connector in place. Feels sad… Wondering if such a repair is actually possible? Like, can I just buy female USB port and just solder it on the board? If so, then how can I remove the broken one? I will also replace the battery. Mine is effectively dead after 2 years and can't hold a “full charge” longer than 20min at Max Vol. Impressive…

Thanks for your help :)
