Instax Mini 90 Repair: Instax Mini 90 Neo Classic is Draining Its Li-Ion Battery(ies)

We have and love the Mini 90 Neo Classic. Unfortunately, it's started eating batteries and can't figure out why or how to diagnose and fix.

Here's what went down: went on vacation and forgot the Li-Ion charger. When the battery died, I bought an aftermarket charger that swelled and destroyed the original battery. Ordered off brand replacement batteries off of Amazon. They powered the camera on, but would die within hours if left in the camera whether camera was on or off. Ordered 2 legit Fuji batteries and same thing.

So, it's the camera. Seems that a rare few have had this issue, but I haven't found anyone who has found a solution. Needless to say, the fiance is quite displeased about this 😬 Happy to tear into, but need to know what I'm looking for first.

Thanks!

Instax Mini 90 Repair: How to replace film door?

Hello! I have one of these that I bought ages ago but dropped and it broke the pointy piece on the door that allows it to latch shut (so you can't lock the film door). I also bought another one for parts multiple years ago (I have a hard time getting around to projects hahaha) that has a good door but I don't really see how to remove and replace it. Anyone have any experience fixing these cameras? Thank you!

Instax Mini 90 Repair: Instax mini 90 Exposure incorrectly

splashed some water on lens and now photos come out either too dark or too bright.

Something seems to be messing with auto exposure. A strange thing that I notice is that when I’m shooting under bright daylight and select no flashing, the no flashing icon keeps blinking which seems to be telling me that light isn’t enough to choose no flashing? Maybe it indicates light receptor is malfunctioning? If so, what are the fixes I could try?

Attached the sample photos I took, you can clearly see some are being way too dark and some are way too bright

Instax Mini 90 Repair: Why isn't my Instax mini camera taking photos?

I’ve had the Instax Mini 90 Neo Classic for around 2 years and it’s always worked fine. But now when I try to take a photograph, nothing happens when I press the button and the shutter does not sound. The battery is fully charged and the camera turns on as normal. There doesn’t seem to be an issue with the film ejecting either, because I’ve tried removing the film pack and reinserting it, and the top film automatically ejects (blank). Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be the issue?

Instax Mini 90 Repair: Any idea how many interlocks are in the Instax Mini 90?

Bought an as-is Instax 90 someone’s child got to.

The battery and most of the contacts cover are missing. I can see there is an interlock lever inside to check for a film pack. There is probably a door closure switch, also.

The double scissors mechanisms feel like just film pack pressure levers…maybe.

Before I spend money & time replacing the battery contact assembly, I want to think about what else is in there…maybe someone here knows….

Thanks

edited 8-6-18

I powered it up on a bench with a current limited DC power supply, holding DMM probes like chopsticks against the battery terminals. The lens extended when turned on but the camera drew a lot of current…after a few repetions (I put masking tape over the ‘film pack present’ interlock switch and also the two ‘scissors’ mechanisms that hold a film pack flat against the back of the camera interior) current dropped significantly and display and modes look normal. Of course (-) indicates 0 exposures left in the non-existent film pack.

So it might work if I bought a battery & film. Duct tape until I can find battery cover parts (e-mailed Fuji).

I am still curious how smart (or dumb) the camera is if the lens were removed…slim chance of it not objecting.

I am leaning toward Dave Rollans’ method of reloading film back sheets into other cameras to expose & returning to pack & Mini to develop (in a changing bag). Not exactly ‘instant’ but easier than hacking other film holding mechanisms onto the ‘90.

Or just use it as intended with duct tape if Fuji won’t play with me…but I like the prospects of a couple older cameras with Instax better now…

I think Elliott & the USF Tampa team might know more, but haven’t figured out contacting them.

thanks
