HTC Evo 4G: HTC EVO 4G Micro-USB Connecter Broken

I can clearly see when looking inside of the Micro-USB charging port that one of the pins broke off. After a while of looking online this I've realized is incredibly common.

Sprint tells you to give them 100 dollars or get bent. HTC says give me your credit card number or get bent. If you read about people that have taken this approach with HTC, they just charge the customer for the cost of the board $240 or HTC charges you $40 if you tell them no thanks.

Is their a part # or a place that I can send my phone to get it repaired or repair it myself due to this obvious design flay by HTC.

That being said it's a sad day when corporations can pass the cost of bad designs to customers and when company's openly tell U.S. service members to get bent.

HTC Evo 4G: How difficult to remove main camera?

I'm really excited about getting an HTC Evo 4G when my current contract's up in July, but company policy is no cameras at work, including on cell phones. Phones with disabled cameras, however, are permitted. Thanks to your teardown, I can see that the forward facing camera is pretty easy to remove, but it's still hard to tell how difficult it would be to remove the main camera from the circuit board. Is it as simple as lifting the lens assembly off some kind of pin connection? Thanks, and great site!

HTC Evo 4G: How do I keep my new digitizer from touching the LCD?

I followed your instructions for replacing the glass digitizer on my EVO 4G. Everything went great but a day later I noticed what looked like a bubble in the center of the screen. The bubble kept growing with use.

With a little investigation I realized it's being caused by the digitizer touching the LCD. If I pry up the edge of the glass a little it pulls away from the LCD and the "bubble" goes away.

While none of your current solutions come out and say it, it seams like it is important to have a good seal around the glass. Can you confirm this. I used dabs of cement at the top and bottom of the casing. Was that a mistake? Will one of those 3M EVO glass adhesive things fix this problem?

I'm about to change the glass on a friend's EVO and I'd like to avoid this problem on his.

HTC Evo 4G: How the heck do I fix the power dongle?

First, thanks for the site - bought a Torx set and got the back of the Evo open. My problem has to do with where the power cord - either a wall adapter or car adapter - attaches to Evo. I don't even know what to call the little piece the adapter slides into. BUT. That particular piece has broken off on my Evo. I can see where it goes, and where the connection points have to meet - but it clearly requires solder to repair. Right now the little metal receptor that is normally IN the phone stays on the end of my power adapter and I use rubber bands and voodoo to keep the charging connection active.

Suggestions? Any way for me to re-secure that thing?

HTC Evo 4G: Micro-USB power port is broken

After only two weeks, the HTC Evo's micro-USB power port failed, maintaining a connection only when I press on the connector in one specific position. I can pay Sprint $120 for a new phone (They won't cover this kind of damage, even though the problem is an obvious factory defect or design flaw.), or I can send it to HTC for repair (paying for outbound shipping and waiting up to 10 days to get my Evo back). How difficult would it be for a non-expert to resolder the connector?

HTC Evo 4G: Where are the GPS unit and its connections?

A couple of weeks ago, I stupidly opened my Evo 4G, attempting to remove some water from the screen. I destroyed the display in the process. That was easy enough to fix. However, I later discovered that the rear speaker wasn't working. Apparently, in removing the inner frame from the display assembly, I had damaged some contacts. The first I discovered was the top spring contact on the right-hand side. In trying to get it back on, I lost it, but didn't notice any change in the phone's operation. I then noticed that one of the little "bowl-in-a-box"-shaped parts along the right-hand side of the sticker had been pried up on one side, and that a wire beneath it had been ripped off its contact. I did my best to solder all three back in place, and the speaker now works.

However, I then discovered the GPS doesn't work. I eventually found and resoldered the missing spring clip, and applied to iron to the bottom "bowl-in-a-box" part on the right-hand side, which seemed to be possibly loose. Neither of these things affected the GPS (or, as far as I can tell, anything else).

Does anyone know how I could have broken the GPS and what I might do to fix it? One hint I have is that the two parts I broke were underneath holes in the inner frame (the teardown video is unclear, and at first I couldn't figure out where to stick my tool).

Thanks,

Scott

HTC Evo 4G: Sprint activation, need stock ROM for rooted phone.

I managed to get a HTC EVO 4G, working after its ROM was deleted. Its now running Cyanogenmod 7.2 . It was already rooted, running Supersonic EVT2-2 and HBOOT version 0.79.0000, plus some other info I can provide if needed, April 14, 2010 is the date listed. RA supersonic v. 2.3 is listed in android recovery mode, or it was rather after using ROM manager app, ClockworkMod recovery is now listed when entering recovery mode from the bootloader.

My problem is activating this phone for new service with Sprint. As far as I know, not possible running the current ROM Cyanogenmod v 7.2 ( CM 7.2).

I need to restore to the stock ROM, however finding a stock ROM for the phone, that will work with it's current setup (rooted) has not been easy.

So if anyone knows further details on this, let me know? Need a stock ROM that will work .

I have looked extensively via searching and reading on xda dev site and others, i am still not clear on a safe way to do this. Safe = a non bricking or removing or changing the current bootloader etc.

I have backed up the phone's current install.

I wish to activate it soon, since its a time sensitive issue. Once i have the correct stock ROM for my current setup (rooted) , flashing for activation and back to my current ROM is fairly easy.

I didn't want to make this question too long, listing a ton of tech. info.

Any input would be welcome of course.

HTC Evo 4G: Ink on notification LED, best way to remove it?

Hi all, long story short, there is now Sharpie ink on the notification LED under the speaker grill on the front of the phone.

I know I can remove it with rubbing alcohol, but trying to leach it off by letting alcohol set on the grill & then soaking it up with a QTIP failed to remove it, it just diluted it and let it spread out over the LED even more, so now it's all but invisible.

Where is the LED located? Is it on the back side of the logic board, or all the way in the front display assembly? Can I just leave the ribbon cables in place & flip the logic board back to clean it off, or will I have to go all the way to removing the glass?

Thanks in advance for any help.
