HP compaq C700: Horizontal lines across screen

Hey guys, I have a pretty old notebook PC that’s got horizontal lines across almost the entire screen. It’s barely possible to make out whats on the display, but some part of it is working. I read somewhere that it’s an easy fix, i just need a new LVDS cable.

So, do I salvage and replace the LVDS cable or the screen?

My monitor is locked on a blue screen with white text telling me there is a problem. The device shuts itself down and restarts, only to display the blue screen again.
