HP ZBook 15: ZBook only charges the battery when it is switched off

Hello, my ZBook only charges the battery when it is switched off. As soon as Windows (or Linux) starts, the loading process stops. The light on the charging socket lights up. Bios has been updated. Battery and power supply driver removed and reinstalled. Power supply was exchanged. The device won't start without a battery (is that normal with the ZBook?) Would swap the charging socket next. Does anyone have any other idea?

HP ZBook 15: Zbook turns off before POST due to display problem

Hello there,

I am currently trying to repair a ZBook 17. After plugging in the power adapter the leds blink for 3 seconds and it turns off again, the screen remains black.

After a while of troubleshooting i found that when I unplug the display cable from the motherboard OR from the display unit (and connecting an external VGA screen) it gets to POST.

Can this be caused by a bad display cable although it is causing no error when it reamins plugged in the motherboard and is disconnected only at the LCD? How can I determine what exactly is causing the issue? For all I know it could also be a bad LCD or even a problem with the graphics card or motherboard.

I don’t want to buy replacement parts before I know for sure what is causing the problem. Can I narrow it down further without buying any parts?

HP ZBook 15: Battery not charning, unresponsive keyboard, no CPU fan

Hi,

I have quite a serious problem with my laptop (HP Zbook 17) where the following things are faulty:

Battery not charging

Keyboard is unresponsive, have to press really hard

Trackpad unresponsive

CPU fan almost never works

Because the diversity of issues, my first thought went to the motherboard however I’m not certain as I’m not very familiar with laptop hardware.

What would be the best step to take to further diagnose the problem?

I’ve had this issue for over a year now but I never really bothered trying to fix it because I mainly use a desktop however I’d like to know if it’s still worth trying to repair it or if I’d be better off just buying a new machine.

Thanks in advance,

HP ZBook 15: Sometimes laptop shuts down immediately after starting to boot

Hi, I have HP Zbook 15 laptop (kinda old, bought in 2014). It has a factory configuration plus additional SSD on the M2 slot, which I use for my OS.

Recently it developed a strange bug. Occasionally, when I turn it on after either a full shut down or a hibernation, it would start boot up sequence, but shutdown after only a second, not even loading the BIOS. As a result, no error log is generated to check what might be the problem. And after that, if you wait a few seconds and boot up again - it starts normally as nothing happened… Usually just waiting a few sec is enough, although a few times I had to wait more for some reason.

I first thought it could be battery, but I had it occur without battery too. It has happened both after I left the laptop plugged in and after I disconnected it and took it with me elsewhere. Also, as it is kinda hard to reproduce, so it is difficult to analyse. Any idea as to what might cause this?
