HP ZBook 17 G3: Caps Lock button blinking 5 times and black screen

The caps lock buttons blinks 5 times and does not boot. While the caps lock button is blinking the fans are very load and the screen stays black.

Note: the laptop does boot sometimes, if I don't try to power it on for maybe an hour it will boot. When it boots after maybe two minutes I get a blue screen: DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION. I also can get into BIOS.

I await your responses, I will clarify whatever questions you may have, friends.

HP ZBook 17 G2: BIOS password on HP ZBook 17 G2

I have a BIOS password on my HP Zbook 17 G2, which I do not know the password for. Any ideas? It will not let me boot into a DVD or USB, and as such I cannot do a fresh install of Windows 10. I also cannot do dual booting either.

Any ideas on how to get this rectified would be appreciated as these laptops are not cheap, and having a BIOS password is not ideal!

Update (11/01/2021)

Thanks everyone for your suggestions so far! :) I no longer have this HP Zbook G2, but hopefully these steps will go some way to helping other people that have this issue!

@ruggb - HP’s BIOS passwords are stored in non volatile memory that isn’t cleared once you’ve reset the BIOS battery (yes I did check this). HP themselves are useless and no longer supply the files required to reset the BIOS. They recommend an entire new motherboard, which obviously isn’t going to happen.

Now if you have the correct tools for the job, you can use a hot air/reflow station to remove the BIOS chips from the motherboard, and use a programmer to re-program the BIOS, but I don’t have the equipment to do this at present.

@sunflowerthomas removing the CMOS battery didn’t work for me. I tried that, to no avail.

Guy Fawkes - I would have tried this if I still had the laptop. Unfortunately I don’t have the laptop anymore, and I would alos have to load two operating systems onto the machine (windows 7 & 10). Having a M.2 adapter definitely helps (but I didn’t have one when I had the laptop). It might work - I’ll bear this in mind if I ever come across a BIOS locked laptop in the future. (The laptop still booted, but I couldn’t change the boot order, or boot off any external device.)

The light on the charging socket lights up. Bios has been updated. Battery and power supply driver removed and reinstalled. Power supply was exchanged. The device won't start without a battery (is that normal with the ZBook?) Would swap the charging socket next. Does anyone have any other idea?

HP ZBook: Keyboard needs to be replaced

Hello,

I have a HP ZBook Power G8 laptop (33D89AV), with keyboard problems, out of warranty. I plan to replace the keyboard myslef, found a lot of sites where you can order replacement parts.

However, I have a few questions, which I need to clarify before pulling the trigger.

How can I figure out the exact part number of my keyboard? I found quite a few replacement parts, which look identical to me, but their part numbers are different: M26110-001, M26111-001, M26112-001, M26113-001. Maybe there are even more... What is the difference between them? Which one I need?

I assume there is no real (hardware) difference between keyboard layouts. I assume the difference is only the printed letters on the keys, and I can replace my current CH-DE keyboard with an EN-US for example, right?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

HP ZBook Studio G3: keyboard typing wrong letters

My keyboard is typing incorrect letters in some cases. Also the trackpad is not working. However in Windows 7 device manager, there are no errors being shown. I did open the laptop to change to a M.2 drive. I may have hit something by accident. Perhaps a ribbon or cable is out. I looked at the maintenance and service guide for answers. They suggest that a keyboard flex cable may have come loose or is not lined up properly. There is no good picture of this in the service guide. Can someone help me? Is there something else that could be wrong? I played with the shift, ctrl, alt, etc. keys and that made no difference.
