I have a hp pavilion 15-P005AX and the screen has black lines through it and was wondering if it was easy enough and cheap enough to replace just the screen?

This has happened for the first time since installing Win10 on this laptop - it is a former 8.1 laptop. In this case, I only installed it to get out of having to put up with it's owner for a few more years. NO, I did not pick this - he did without asking me.

While I am willing to replace the drive with an SSD if need be (as a weekend project) — as long as he gives me one to install (or cash to buy one), I see this laptop as the red headed stepchild due to the procedure required for the hard drive, which I’m (hopefully understandably so) not keen on doing when it inevitably dies. This apprehension is pushed further into the red by a lack of TPM (even 1.2) and no official Win11 compatibility so it has a use by date of 10/14/2025 — with my targets I set for such retirements, it’s early to mid 2024 but I've told the owner end of life is 2025 for transparency. Yes, Win11 can be installed but it's not supported and I don't want to chance it for a issue HP/AMD/Microsoft will not support. This is in addition to the already abysmal performance of the A10-4655 APU (2014) due to the mandatory security features. The i5-8350U from 2017 (Kaby Lake R) fares better performance wise every time.

All of that said, I think the day has come I may need to open this laptop and replace the HD for an SSD, if these issues persist and grow worse. I suspect it’s about time due to a Windows 10 disk error forcing a restart, combined with the previous SMART issues I’ve known about for years but have kind of stabilized with time. It’s one of those I’ve let the owner know about years ago and monitored it a little, and he’s opted to risk it for the last few years we’ve had it.

HP Pavilion 15 P Series: Is this even worth installing an SSD in? Will it help the performance?

I inherited the laptop from my family, who asked me to erase it and didn’t want it back (I got to keep it this year, well past its prime). I tried using it as-is, I can’t; it’s too unbearably slow.

While I am not opposed to installing an SSD, the version I have is pretty abysmally specced (A10-4655M/8GB DDR3L - hard to access/15” 768p TN LCD/Realtek wireless/1TB HD - Samsung ST Spinpoint), so the specs are a pretty serious negative on this one. I even tried to use it once and I hung it up again when it took 10 minutes to startup fully; I was tired of waiting.

How much will an SSD help this laptop? Like I said, not opposed but the CPU and overall performance was pretty bad at the time, so I was hesitant to do so after that.

HP Pavilion 15 P Series: HP Pavilion Model 15-P243sa (Screen Darkened Top Right Corner)

Hello all

I have a HP Pavilion model 15-P243sa ( beats audio ) , CPU N3540 (2.16ghz) , 8GB ram, 1TB HD.

Out of warranty, but well looked after and more recently the screen in the top right hand corner has become slightly dark.

I have Googled the issue and found some similar topics and tricks to remedy the problem, which resulted in no solution.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-V...

I have updated the BIOS and done a factory reset and still no fix!

Unable to connect to external monitor.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

If so what was the answer?

Replace the screen?

Unable to find any similar screen replacement procedures on ifixit.

Is this type of screen easily disassembled?

Many thanks for reading.

HP Pavilion p Series: HP Pavilion 15-p Series Screen Replacement and Repair Queries

Hello iFixit Community,

I have an HP Pavilion 15-p series laptop (model 15-p243sa) and am encountering a few issues with it. Recently, I've noticed that the screen has developed a dark spot in the top right corner, despite having updated the BIOS and performed a factory reset. Unfortunately, I’m unable to connect the laptop to an external monitor to troubleshoot further.

I’m looking for guidance on the following:

Has anyone experienced similar screen issues with the HP Pavilion 15-p series? If so, what was the solution?

Is replacing the screen a feasible option for this model, and are there any specific procedures or tips for disassembling and replacing the screen?

I’ve checked ifixit and other resources but haven’t found a detailed guide for this model. Are there any reliable repair guides or videos for similar models that could help?

Any advice or insights from those who have tackled similar repairs would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

HP Pavilion 15 P Series: Compatible Models for HP Pavilion 15-p287sa hinge replacement

Hi there,

I've got a HP Pavilion 15-p287sa with broken hinges. The LCD screen etc is all working. I looked around and found that this is a somewhat known issue but my laptop is way past the warranty date. So when looking for compatible hinges online, eBay sellers list them for £100+. I wanted to know If anyone has any experience on a suitable alternative? For example I sometimes see HP Pavilion 15-p289sa models show up, however these are the non-touchscreen models so I'm not sure if I could use these hinges.

Any thoughts/advice would be much helpful!

Thanks,
