HP Pavilion b Series: Laptop stuck on " Preparing Automatic Repair " during start up.

Laptop: HP Pavilion 14-b109wm.

Running Windows 8.

My father's laptop isn't working. When you turn it on it starts to load Windows 8, but only says "Preparing Automatic Repair" then goes to a black screen.

I tried holding the power button for 20sec, but there was no change during start up.

I restarted again and tried holding F9, F5, F10 to try and run a self diagnostic test, but that didn't work either.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

HP Pavilion x360 14-ba253cl: Laptop power button is on with light lit normally but screen is blank.

Laptop was in sleep mode all the night. When I got up and switched it on, it didn't get switched on and so I shut it down using the power button. After that when I switched on the laptop, the screen is completely blank and black. Literally nothing is there. But the power button white LED light is lit normally with no blinking etc and the laptop is even heating up like normal. The laptop has non-removable battery. So I tried resetting it by pressing power button for more than 15 seconds and also by pressing Windows button+B along with power button, but nothing is working. Plz help.

HP Pavilion x360 14-ba253cl: Display backlight partially not working

Hi there,

I was lent this computer for repair. Works OK, but the lower right hand corner of the display isn't working properly

. I suspect backlight malfunction, but even if the diagnosis is easy, the repair may not be.

Has anyone tried to take apart the display assembly?

HP Pavilion x360 14-ba253cl: Enclosure broken around power button, how to repair?

Hi fellow repair-men and women,

On this computer model I have to repair, the plastic enclosure around the power button is cracked and broken. The previous owner likely dropped it more than once. The power button itself is a sub-microswitch located rather deep inside the enclosure and actuated by a plastic pusher molded in one piece with a spring-like extension riveted inside.

The rectangular hole holding the plastic power-button pusher has deformed, and the pusher frequently stays in the depressed position, meaning the computer may or may not turn on since the switch can stay permanently depressed.

Additionally, the spring-like plastic structure from the pusher is also broken.

It is just one exemple of a cosmetic defect affecting functionality

Already tried:

Finding the plastic pusher and replace it. No luck, even on AliExpress

Thinking of trying:

Make the rectangular hole slightly larger with an Xacto, but doing so may result in the pusher getting lost inside.

Thought of trying, but rejected:

Glueing the pusher to the switch. Given how small the electrical switch is, I just couldn't trust myself to lay a glue bead small enough not to glue the switch itself but large enough to hold the pusher.

HP Pavilion b Series: Snapped flip cover on FPC connector

I'm in the process of fitting an old HP laptop with an SSD. After removing the back cover I've noticed that the flip cover on the FPC connector that the SDD plugs into looks like it has snapped off.

I appreciate that the ideal solution is to get the FPC replaced but I really would prefer to avoid that if possible. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
