HP Pavilion Notebook 17: System Fan (90B) error

Hi

The laptop gives this error at the BIOS boot up stage.

The fan sounds like it spins up and down a few times.

The system then shuts down.

I opened up the laptop and the fan spun freely with my fingers. I put it back together, updated to the latest BIOS and it was ok for a few days.

It’s now doing the same again.

Any ideas please ?

Thanks

HP Pavilion 17-b Series: Laptop display all black despite no physical damage what’s going on?

Before my laptop display mysteriously stopped working I would get this black screen that would have this text pop up that said “CMOS checksum error invalid “ which I ignored because I had absolutely no idea what that meant and then my laptop would boot up to the login screen as normal until last Saturday 3/4 I kept getting this error message about a usb being unrecognized even though I hadn’t put one in recently. I thought my laptop was just glitching like technology does usually and I went to restart it but then that’s when it happened after I went to restart the laptop the display wouldn’t not come back on and then the caps lock button I noticed on my keyboard was flashing multiple times I counted like 5-6 all together few long ones few short ones I then thought do I have water damage somehow why is my keyboard doing that so then I went to open my base enclosure didn’t see anything that really stuck out that looked damaged (then again I didn’t know what I was looking for) so I closed it up and decided to take it somewhere called HP support and they suggested that I send it to them and they replace the hard drive and motherboard for a large amount of money or take it to somewhere local like a Best Buy geek squad. This proved to be useless also Best Buy geek squad experience was weird they told me they couldn’t help me because I didn’t buy my laptop there it’s out of warranty anyways (had it since 2018) and they sent me to a “Ubreakifixit” I thought this would be the solution but they called me today saying my laptop is unrepairable which I can’t believe, my friend linked me to this page in hopes of some real answers and help I’m hoping I can get some help here

This device will not power on, or give fan spin when the power button is pressed, the ac adapted is working properly it has been tested. I have also removed the CMOS and tried powering on nothing worked. I then went and found the board schematics and tested multiple points on the motherboard itself and it seems to be receiving power properly across the board, the DC IN board is receiving power properly but still nothing happens when the power button is pressed. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

HP Pavilion Notebook 17: Won't work on Battery

Hello and thank you for the forum and the chance to finally fix my laptop. I woke one morning ant the laptop would not respond. I tried everything I knew but could not bring anything up on the display. I finally removed the battery and wha-la everything worked as normal, except as soon as I put the battery back in it completely went black and had no power indicator light. I again removed the battery and again it powered right back up as normal. I, in essence, now had a desk top computer instead of a laptop. All indications I had told me the battery was bad. I purchased a new battery from Battdepot and waited for it to arrive from China.

My new battery arrived today. I carefully unpacked it and read the direction. It seemed easy enough to me. Following the directions I installed the new battery and BAM,, the screen went blank and would not power back up in any configuration until I once again removed the battery and plugged the charger back in. Has anyone else experienced this problem or chain of events before ?? Now it indicates that there is a problem with the battery recognition by the laptop. Something must be wrong with the interface between the computer and the battery. Does anyone at all have any suggestions for me??

Thank you everyone for your assistance with my problem. If I can ever return the favor I surely will..

HP Pavilion Notebook 17: USB slots not working

I went to plug in a USB phone charger and mistakenly had it upside down (It was dark) I didn’t force it in but pushed it in as normal thinking it was the right way up. As soon as I did that the laptop completely shut down. I took a look at the USB slot and seen one of the gold pins had been bent. I tried m best to bend it back into place after I shut it down. Once it was back on I tried the USB slot but again the laptop switched off. I then tried the other USB slots on the other side of the laptop and they don’t cause the laptop to switch off but they aren’t working at all. I looked online for help and already tried the method of removing the battery and turning laptop on then restarting again with the battery. Also tried going into devmgmt.msc and unticking the option that allows the computer to switch off USB to save power.

I can’t find any other solutions and was wondering if anyone on here had any? Any help is appreciated!
