HP Pavilion b Series: Laptop stuck on " Preparing Automatic Repair " during start up.

Laptop: HP Pavilion 14-b109wm.

Running Windows 8.

My father's laptop isn't working. When you turn it on it starts to load Windows 8, but only says "Preparing Automatic Repair" then goes to a black screen.

I tried holding the power button for 20sec, but there was no change during start up.

I restarted again and tried holding F9, F5, F10 to try and run a self diagnostic test, but that didn't work either.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

HP Pavilion dv2000: PLEASE HELP! Beeping and black screen when laptop turned on

OK, I've had this laptop (HP pavilion dv2000) for a while now, and I have no idea what happened. Recently, when I turn it on, all the lights turn on—but after around 5 seconds, it beeps loudly four times. Also, the screen is completely black—nothing pops up. The black screen goes on forever. If anybody has had this problem or knows how to fix it, I would be extremely grateful for your help with this problem. I have no idea what to do. Thanks.

HP Pavilion: No beeps, no post just Black Screen

Hi all,

I have a HP pavilion dv2700 laptop with 3gb of memory and a SATA hard drive. I reinstalled the OS (vista) using the recovery tool from the options. F11 in this case, It all went well, everything installed and I was even inserting user details. I turned my back to it for a couple of minues and then I saw this black screen and the laptop would not react. I turned it off and on and there was no POST and just a plain black screen.

I tried to disassemble it to take dust out before and then I started to reinstall the OS. I probably messed it up right there.

I took everything out, the memory and tried them one-by-one and turned it on, it gave me 4 beeps. (I guess it was just saying there was no RAM) sometimes after putting everything back again it gave me 2 short beeps. Apart from that just the black screen that tells me the screen is good and there is reaction but there is no post , no BIOS... so I cannot go any further.

What can it be??? Please give me some suggestions.

Hi laptop was working fine then had booting issues where it would get to home screen and auto reboot. Managed to get to repair and started a windows reset last I saw it was 47%, but I had to leave. When I returned black screen power button was on but nothing. Tried turning off and on, again power button lights but no fan noise and no screen lights. I have tried a reset where I took out the battery held power for 30s and replace battery but no change. Power light is on when charging but no other lights even caps and mute lights not working.

HP Pavilion dv9000: What is the cause of multiple hard drive failures?

The HP Pavilion dv9000 is not the oldest computer out there. About 4 months ago, the stock hard drive (about 2 years old) began making scratching noises and such, so I went out and bought an external to back it up, as well as a new Western Digital WD Scorpio Black 500 GB 7200 RPM (the "desktop-performance" laptop hard drives).

So I tried backing it up with the external, but the old drive died mid back up, and it was completely dead.

I installed the new hard drive, and hooked it up with Windows 7, but even 2 weeks in, I started having start up problems. Windows would fail to start up occasionally, and I had to do start-up repair a few times. 2 months in, Windows failed again, I started start-up repair, and it didn't work. I went into the hard drive self-check, it passed the quick test, but received an "error #10009: replace hard disk" from the comprehensive check.

I know that means I need to replace it again, but I'm wondering if anyone knows what could cause this. Did I just get unlucky with 2 bad hard drives, or is there something else that could cause this?

I've been using it for years on my HP Pavilion DV6. About a year or so ago, when I open Microsoft Word or another office program, it comes up with a prompt screen telling me it's not activated and to change the product key, error 0x8007232B. I looked on the back of my laptop (Windows 7) and it has a product key and so I typed that in but it says it still doesn't work.
