Not white or amber. Tried a different power supply; no joy. Opened the laptop and measured the voltage on the 20 pin connector that goes from the Power connector to the motherboard, and it measures 19.6 volts.

Removed and tested the SSD and HDD. Both work. (I backed up both while I had them out of the laptop.)

I started disassembling my HP Omen 17, and came up with the following designation from the motherboard, as you instructed:

Let me give you a few of my thoughts and delineated abilities.

1) I have done a fair amount of PC board soldering, but none of in on surface mount devices.

2) This laptop is very nice (when it works), and has three display surfaces: the laptop and 2 external HDMI monitors. (It runs Linux Mint 20.)

3) If the motherboard should be replaced, so be it. Please advise.

4) I managed to crack the little blue connector at the top of the second photo - it connects to the thermal sensor - (JIR1).

It is a six conductor ribbon on a reverse ZIF.

5) If I replace the motherboard, can I remove the processor from the old motherboard, or does the new motherboard have a new processor?

Like a fool, I didn't save my last post, so I am doing it all over again.

I am going to post an answer, rather than risk losing my comment again (and this time I will save the text).

There are 19 photos which have been uploaded to the media center. They represent the component side and solder (for lack of a more descriptive designation) of the mother board. The zoomed out component side (with the Fluke meter) is followed by details of the component side.

If you can help me to troubleshoot this motherboard, that would be very kind of you. As you indicated earlier, a new motherboard would also contain the processor and Nvidia; so that is not a viable option. Since I really don't have the skill to do surface mount soldering (except very limited), would you be able

and willing to suggest some party who could handle this for me. I live in the mid-West.

At first it was working fine, i usually played heavy games on it, i faced no issue.

I turned it on some morning (about 2 years ago) and it just booted normally and after sometime the screen started flickering and it shutdown. It wasn't overheated or spilled with water or anything, it just suddenly stopped.

I've tried many guides by replacing the ram, removing the battery, changing the hard drive everything

Keeping in mind

1) It's power supply is perfect

2) It's ram was new

3) Hard drive was working correctly

The thing is if I try to start it the power light turns on and stays on but the screen remains blank, I don't hear the fans spinning and the keyboard doesn't light up.

I'm suspecting that it's a power issue as the motherboard doesn't receive power but at one side the usb port is working but on the main side where there are 2 usb ports, hdmi, and power port is not working (power port does receive power)

This has been ging on for a few days and I haven't really taken it anywhere for repairing because the people in my country are not very skilled and it's just a big risk.

Any help will be appreciated! Thanks.

Here’s a photo of the actual laptop.

Most disassemble guides don’t include the screen, I need to know how since on left bottom part of which the monitor/screen that connects to the main body of the laptop have somewhat loosen, more specifically its the part on which it holds the screen whenever its closing or opening, it has three screws and all three came out cause there’s a crevice that forms every time I close the laptop which I could somewhat close by pulling the screen lightly enough. I could provide a photo of the crevice later on if someone is interested on that, later this day.

Around this place.

In short I simple need to know if there’s disassemble guide on which includes the screen, I want to see if I can somewhat fix the problem I have. Thank you in advance.

My doubts:

• Once opened, does the thermal gel lose effectiveness?
• If it becomes necessary, what size thermal pad should I use as a replacement? (I doubt I can find that gel in my country).
• Does the motherboard have thermal sensors near those components? (To know how much confidence I can have in the software).
• What thermal gel do you recommend?

So far the notebook did not present any problems, even after the Furmark and CPU-Z tests.

I appreciate any contributions and suggestions.

This is what I tried:

• Cleansed and reapplied the paste on CPU and GPU
• Removed RAM modules, switched their positions, tried one by one
• Disconnected the screen ribbon cable and reconnected it
• Tried a lot of arcane shortcuts such as powering up while pressing Win + B, Win + V, ESC, F2, F10
• Removed the Wifi card, the SSD and HDD
• Removed the battery, pressed the power button for 60 seconds
• Removed the battery, pressed the power button for 60 seconds and let the laptop sit like that for a couple of hours

I tried all of these things at least twice. Nothing worked. This is the behavior I'm seeing:

1- Without SSD/HDD

It turns on (no screen), and does nothing until I turn it off

2- With SSD/HDD

I turn it on, it immediately turns off. Then it turns on by itself for about 6-10 seconds, then off. Finally, it turns on and remains on until I turn it off. When this happens, I can see the HDD led blinking as if there's activity happening at random intervals, much like when Windows is loading. Fans also spin at regular intervals.

I'd like to know if this is officially dead or there's something else I can try. I should mention there's no CMOS battery and the CPU and GPU are embedded, also the CPU doesn't have an integrated GPU. And yes, I know I might have f****d it up because I didn't remove the battery. However, it's also a long shot that this would've unequivocally fried the mobo. So it'd be great to explore all possibilities.

Need battery optimiser settings to set battery to charge to 85%….current at latest bios version but only seeing adaptive battery setting enable or disable (enabling it still lets my laptop to charge to 100%)

I take off the mather bord from and i fond som missing caps and som burned places o the mather bord so i replaced every faulty component by my self and the pc just work fin look at my answer to see the imges

I left it for a week to dry out (now realising that was a mistake) and still got no response. A few things to note, when the battery is pluged in aswell as the charger the battery light slowly blinks orange and pressing the power button doesn’t turn it on. when I unpluged the battery and then connected the charger, it still wouldnt turn on, but now the orange blinking turned white and was blinking faster. I guess there still is some life in it.

I know it will be costly, and i dont even know if it can be repaired. I contacted HP and told them about this and they directly pointed me in the the direction of buying a new laptop…

if anyone knows what the problem is and whether it can be repaired, this will be some great help.

It's not that it just won't turn on, the charging light (the little LED near the power plug in HP laptops) doesn't even light up. I've tried a new AC-IN plug and that didn't make a difference.

I have a 200W HP-brand power adapter, which gives out the appropriate juice.

What else, down the line, could've failed and how do I test it?

The only thing that resolves it is rebooting the laptop, and even then I may have to do it several times, though once usually does the trick.

I have tried uninstalling the network card and reinstalling it. That works in the same way rebooting does, it resolves it temporarily. A day or two later I'll experience the issue again.

The drivers of the network card are up to date, I am running the latest HP BIOS and the latest version of windows.

This is driving me crazy, does anyone know what might be happening?
