HP Omen 17-CB0000: No power indication on Power Connector

Model: 17-cb1055cl

Product ID: 1X445UA#ABA

Core i7-10750H - GeForce RTX 2070 - 1080p

Not white or amber. Tried a different power supply; no joy. Opened the laptop and measured the voltage on the 20 pin connector that goes from the Power connector to the motherboard, and it measures 19.6 volts.

Removed and tested the SSD and HDD. Both work. (I backed up both while I had them out of the laptop.)

This is for oldturkey03 ---

I started disassembling my HP Omen 17, and came up with the following designation from the motherboard, as you instructed:

GPC72 LA-J672P

Rev: 1.0

2020-03-26

Made In China

Let me give you a few of my thoughts and delineated abilities.

1) I have done a fair amount of PC board soldering, but none of in on surface mount devices.

2) This laptop is very nice (when it works), and has three display surfaces: the laptop and 2 external HDMI monitors. (It runs Linux Mint 20.)

3) If the motherboard should be replaced, so be it. Please advise.

4) I managed to crack the little blue connector at the top of the second photo - it connects to the thermal sensor - (JIR1).

It is a six conductor ribbon on a reverse ZIF.

5) If I replace the motherboard, can I remove the processor from the old motherboard, or does the new motherboard have a new processor?

Dear oldturkey03,

Like a fool, I didn't save my last post, so I am doing it all over again.

I am going to post an answer, rather than risk losing my comment again (and this time I will save the text).

There are 19 photos which have been uploaded to the media center. They represent the component side and solder (for lack of a more descriptive designation) of the mother board. The zoomed out component side (with the Fluke meter) is followed by details of the component side.

The zoomed out solder side is followed by detailed photos of same.

If you can help me to troubleshoot this motherboard, that would be very kind of you. As you indicated earlier, a new motherboard would also contain the processor and Nvidia; so that is not a viable option. Since I really don't have the skill to do surface mount soldering (except very limited), would you be able

and willing to suggest some party who could handle this for me. I live in the mid-West.

Thank you for your patience.

Blessings,

George

HP Omen 17-cb0006na: Why does my laptop keep losing access to the internet?

My HP Omen laptop has a strange issue, and I can't work out why it's happening or how to resolve it. I'll be using the internet perfectly normally, a few tabs open browsing different things and then suddenly no web pages will load anymore. Disconnecting and reconnecting the wifi doesn't resolve it. When I check, I'm still connected to the router, and every other device in the house that's connected to the router can stream without issue.

The only thing that resolves it is rebooting the laptop, and even then I may have to do it several times, though once usually does the trick.

I have tried uninstalling the network card and reinstalling it. That works in the same way rebooting does, it resolves it temporarily. A day or two later I'll experience the issue again.

The drivers of the network card are up to date, I am running the latest HP BIOS and the latest version of windows.

This is driving me crazy, does anyone know what might be happening?

Thanks

HP Omen 17-cb0006na: Why might a laptop GPU's core clock become stuck at a set value?

The core clock of the RTX 2070 GPU in my HP Omen laptop has become stuck quite frequently over the last few months. It can become stuck on boot up or after gaming for a short while.

When it becomes stuck, the core clock will usually not clock above either 300MHz or 1215MHz, and there never appears to be any clear reason why this happens.

I have taken all the steps I can think of to rectify it, but nothing works;

The GPU drivers are the most up to date.

I’m running the latest version of windows.

I have the latest BIOS update for the laptop.

I have ruled out any third party software as being the culprit through a process of disabling/uninstalling then testing.

I am running monitoring software and CPU undervolting software to ensure the GPU isn’t throttling due to heat or power limit (and the issue occurs playing very light old titles as well as new, and the GPU never exceeds 60c).

I have restored and recovered the system on more than one occasion.

I have benchmarked the GPU (which confirms when it is working that it performs well).

The issue usually goes away on reboot, but sometimes it does not, and requires a full system recovery (starting a fresh) to be fixed. This usually gives me a month or so of gaming without any trouble before the issues returns.

I’m completely stumped, and so are HP support. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Joe

HP Omen 17-an000 Series: Troubleshooting and fixing replacement laptop battery installation

Bought a replacement FM08-12pin for my HP Omen laptop because the old battery wasn't charging. It got to the point where I couldn't even run the computer plugged in.

When I installed the new battery, I definitely bent a pin. I gently coaxed it back into place, and I believe they are all fine, but I've never gotten the laptop + battery working. I plug it in to let it charge, but it never seems to charge. My power supply shows 19.5V (which is correct) but my kill-a-watt meter shows it drawing only 0.01-0.04 amp. The led next to the power socket on the laptop lights for a few minutes, then goes out.

I've searched for, but not found, the pinout for this battery.

I'm wondering if the problem isn't even the battery, but the electronics between the power socket and the battery.

Any advice on how to troubleshoot this would be greatly appreciated!

HP Omen 17-W000 Series: Why does my omen show no signs of life?

Around 3 years ago like any other day, I booted up my HP omen 17 laptop with no issues. I used to play heavy games like Fortnite on it. On one particular day, as it booted, I had not yet not signed into my account, the screen started flickering with green and pinkish lines, it dimmed and then it shut off, it never turned on back again.

I have checked the power supply which works fine on another laptop.

There is no smell of any component burned. I took of the heat sink to get a better look at the cpu and GPU which seems totally fine.

When I try to turn it on, only the power button light stays on but nothing happens, there is absolutely no power in the motherboard. The screen doesn't turn on, I don't hear the fans running, one side of the laptop with an HDMI port 2 USB ports and aux ports etc, that side shows no power, while one side does.

I've check the CMOS cell , which is also perfectly fine.

I don't understand that why it just randomly turned off. There was no water damage and it was not hot when I turned it on.

The cpu and GPU are definitely not fried, I suspect that maybe a smaller component might've been damaged but I'm not sure why and how.

Any help would be appreciated.
