My HP 840 turns on with the HP logo and Bios but after 1-2 seconds turns off.

Not reacting on any buttons combinations. Turns on only if I connect the power adapter.

Tried to change the battery but not helped.

Please help.

Ever since then it has not been able to charge laptop battery

Hi, I know this site doesn't have the model: elitebook 850 g1 but I still wanted to ask.

I placed a bios password a while back then forgot the password and i needed this pc. i get the bios out to read data and write when placing the bios back i misssed placed the bios in the wrong place because this pc has 2 bios chips so me trying to switch it broke the path on one of them. is the pc dead? yea i guess im not messing with it but if you guys want to help please do. :)

i was thinking of jumping the bios but could not find the schematic for this model, and i dont have warranty.

HP EliteBook 840 G1: HP EliteBook 840 G1 Power on but no display (Black Screen) after sitting unused

My HP EliteBook 840 G1 is powering on with a solid power light, but the display remains completely black.

Symptoms:

- Laptop was working fine without a battery, but after being left unused for a week, it stopped showing a display.

- When plugged in, the power button blinks once, then stays solid.

- Occasionally, leaving it on the charger overnight allows it to boot, but it fails again after a shutdown or sleep.

- It auto-powers on as soon as AC is connected if the RTC battery is unplugged.

Steps already attempted:

- Performed multiple hard resets (holding power button for 30s and 2 minutes with all power sources removed).

- Reseated and cleaned the single RAM module; tried it in both slots.

- Disconnected and reconnected the RTC (CMOS) battery.

- Attempted BIOS recovery key combinations (Win+B and Win+V).

- The fan spins, but there are no specific Caps Lock blink codes.

Could this be a failing capacitor on the motherboard, a corrupted BIOS chip that needs a manual re-flash, or a specific power rail issue common to this model?
