HP 15-f Series: Laptop freezing briefly every few minutes

Every five minutes or so, my laptop freezes completely for about 2 seconds before continuing to function. When this happens, the video freezes without any noticeable visual glitches, and the audio goes completely silent. Afterwards, both video and audio usually continue as if the freeze hadn't happened (e.g. a YouTube video won't skip ahead 2 seconds); however, keyboard/mouse inputs from the first second or so during the freeze are retained, and seem to all go through instantly as the video/audio unfreezes. Occasionally, mainly when playing games that involve a client-server connection (e.g. Minecraft singleplayer), video and audio will instead jump ahead to match the server.

I've had this issue for a few months and haven't been able to identify a cause. A few days ago it stopped happening, but this morning it started again, both times without any obvious trigger.

Some solutions/tests I've tried:

Restarting (several times)

Restarting and not opening programs I typically have open (Google Chrome, Discord, Discord Canary)

Restarting and launching to a different, unused profile

Uninstalling and/or disabling various startup programs (e.g. Adobe software, f.lux, Copilot)

Disconnecting all peripherals, including power cord

Disabling Windows Game Mode/Xbox Mode

Checking performance graphs in Task Manager: no noticeable changes before, during, or after freezes

Checking more advanced performance graphs using WinDirStat and CrystalDiskInfo: no noticeable changes

The freeze does appear when taking screen recordings, so I've been able to capture some examples of it happening:

Freeze while watching a video

Freeze while playing a game

My specifications:

Device name: Samothrace
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS w/ Radeon 780M Graphics (3.80 GHz)
Installed RAM: 32.0 GB (31.3 GB usable)
Device ID: 4CD4757B-257C-4B45-A18E-BB93FE5FAD56
Product ID: 00342-22361-29331-AAOEM
System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch: No pen or touch input is available for this display

Edition: Windows 11 Home
Version: 25H2
Installed on: ‎2/‎15/‎2025
OS build: 26200.8655
Experience: Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.315.0

HP 15-f009wm: Upgrading RAM from 4GB to 16GB

My HP 15 F209wm notebook has 4GB of DDR3L RAM, however, I would like to upgrade my RAM to at least 16GB; but my motherboard only supports up to 8GB of RAM, by way of 2 4GB RAM slots (my motherboard also supports 6GB of RAM, 2GB DDR3L x 4GB DDR3L). Should I upgrade my motherboard, in order to make the RAM upgrade, or should I stick with the device specific motherboard and specifications and only upgrade up to 8GB of RAM?

FYI - The upgrade is to obtain better performance, as my PC is suffering from slower performance, I feel due to insufficient RAM storage.

Thanks - Marcellus

HP 15-f033wm: help removing optical drive, bezel broke off

I actually have an HP model number 15-bw033wm laptop

I removed both screws holding the optical drive in place, but when I gently tried to wiggle the optical drive out, the bezel broke off. I think it broke the clip off one side of the bezel. I can put it back on but it's not strong enough to use to pull out the drive. I've removed drives before and they've always come out very easily. But this drive will not budge. There were only 2 screws holding it in and it's a new 2018 computer. (I'm outside the US so returning it is prohibitively expensive. My best option is to just order a new fan and replace it myself.)

Can anyone offer any advice on how to get the optical drive out so I can open it up to get to the fan?

Thanks.

Update (05/04/2018)

I followed the instructions on page 33, but my issue is that with this laptop, the optical drive will not slide out. I've removed the screw pictured in the manual and there is a second screw right next to the drive that I've also removed - so nothing should be holding the drive onto the lapatop. I've removed the optical drive from other laptops and they've always slid right out - but with this one it's stuck tightly inside the laptop. When I tried to wiggle the bezel (which is all you can hold onto to pull out the drive), the bezel detached from the drive - and in the process, I think it broke the clip on one side. So now I can loosely reconnect the bezel to the drive on one side - but it's not strong enough to pull the drive out. I've turned the laptop on its side hoping gravity would help it slide out - but it does not budge. And with the bezel off, I can find anything on the drive itself to get a grip on so that I can slide out the drive. Of course I can't get inside the laptop either (to see what else might be holding it in place) because I need to remove the optical drive before it can be opened up. I've searched online for this problem - but I can't find anyone who's ever had this same problem.

Any suggestions? Thanks so much.
