Google Pixel 9: How do I diagnose water damage severity?

My Pixel 9 is effectively toast after a good lengthy water submersion (cannot charge or turn on, already dried it in silica for a couple days). Went to a Google repair store, they said no current could flow into the device, saying I needed to replace the board for nearly $800... Maybe they're right, but maybe it's something like the charging part doesn't work and I'm getting fleeced.

Anyhow, I'd like to diagnose the severity of the damage myself. I have some experience in laptop repair, but not smartphone.

tl;dr - When taking apart my Pixel 9, what am I looking for in order to diagnose water damage? How can I tell if a component isn't working anymore?

Hello everyone,

I am wondering if anyone knows a source where I could buy a replacement FPC connector for the motherboard of a Google Pixel 9, as a replacement will probably be needed after a botched repair.

Thank you in advance.
