Google Pixel 7a: Screen black after replacing, same with old screen (sometimes)

When I connected the new screen it was black and didn't display anything although the phone is working otherwise. Then I connected the old screen and that didn't work either, so I looked up what could be causing the problem and found it might be the proximity sensor making the screen stay off, so I removed the sensor gasket and then my old screen worked, but then I tried the new screen and it still didn't work, and now I can't get the old screen to work either, so I'm at a bit of a loss now. It seems like when I connect a new screen I may have to reboot in a certain way to make it come on but it's difficult to be sure what's the reason it's not working each time I try.

My P7a (lynx) shut down randomly several times, followed by the phone being unwilling to boot for an extended duration. After each shut down, the amount of time it took for the phone to boot got longer, and the phone no longer boots at all. When the phone was working between shut downs, some functionality would usually be broken. Functions I observed inoperative were (not all together - on different instances): Cellular modem (only connects to EDGE), Camera (none start), and WiFi (Cannot detect any networks).

When the phone refuses to boot, the upper third of the phone remains slightly warm, even when not plugged in. The warmth goes away after being unplugged for an extended duration (hours) and returns when it is plugged in. The phone screen is black, and nothing happens when every combination of power/volume buttons is pressed, held for 10s, held for 60s, or held for 2-3m.

When the phone does boot, the indicated battery % is close to the same as when the phone shut down, even if it has been plugged in for hours.

Judging by the coolness of the AC adapter, I believe the phone does not draw much power when plugged in.

Unsure where the fault may lie. I am willing to disassemble the phone if it is a hardware flaw. Anyone have an idea of what is going wrong?

Im looking for this part—

Google Pixel 7a Proximity Sensor shield/gasket/foam

it is a tiny part that houses or is placed around the proximity sensor to ensure a blacked out light tunnel for the sensor light.. without it the proximity sensor does not work.

a bad repair job in a local shop has meant that they lost the part....
i am looking to buy it somewhere, but i cannot find it anywhere online.

how can i find this?

Google Pixel 7a: greent tint and stripes after screen replacement

Hi,

I replaced the screen and now there is a green tint and stripes. If I don’t mount the screen onto the phone, everything looks fine, but as soon as I install it, the issue appears.

The graphite foil is damaged — could this be the reason?

I changed the battery, everythings seem to work expect for the side volume button. Since the power button still works, I don't think I broke any cable.

I did repair mine (in 2025) with the ifixit battery replacement kit (france) : Google Pixel 7a Battery - Genuine

Is the battery provided by ifixit also impacted by the issue ? or not ?

Hi, just went through the full screen replacement guide. Bought the whole kit from you with a genuine display included. When I reinstalled the new screen and turned on the phone I wont get anything to display on the screen. I just get some pixels of color randomly and that's it. The old screen worked just fine before i removed it. I removed it because the glass was broken. During the removal I had to use some force so I'm pretty sure the old screen is fully dead by now. However the new screen I manedged to install very gently. I tried to replug the connector once and it feels like it's seated like it should in the connector.

Any advice would be appreciated.

repaired a customers broken pixel 7a screen. phone will boot up and just before it gets to the lock screen< it will go black. occasionally it will come back and display the lock screen but then disappear again. i have tried 3 separate 'oem" screens with the same results. have also done the hard reset

Hi there! When woken up from stand by my Google Pixel 7a displays grey lines at approx. 90 % display brightness. The problem is less pronounced at full display brightness. However, at less than 100% brightness white spaces appear "washed out"/grey-ish, with horizontal lines respectively (see photo). The problem becomes more visible with an increasingly dimmed display. Intereslingly, at the colors and sharpness of photos seem fine at full brightness. What could be the cause of the problem? And how could it be fixed? Thanks for your help.

Battery broke, swell, broke open the phone...

Probably broke the side button tab in the process.

Or it happened when I replaced the battery with the replacement you send

Can't find a fix / replacement for the side button tab.

How to fix it? Bottom connection is ripped off, Both volume buttons don't work anymore

The fingerprint scanner of my pixel 7a is not working after screen replacement.

I scanned the barcode on the new screen which took me to the site meant to help with a software repair to solve the issue.

But now, I can't repair it because apparently "Your device's current software version: AP2A.240705.004 is newer than this repair tool has."

That is the error I am getting, please I need help

I bought a Pixel 7a while in the USA over the summer, and when I returned to Ireland, the rear camera shattered randomly. Apparently, this is a common manufacturing error that Pixel covers under warranty, but they won't honour it as I have left the US. Repair shops in Ireland say components aren't compatible with US phones.

I am trying to replace the phone myself, is a pixel 7a back replacement piece bought in Europe compatible with a pixel 7a bought in the USA?

Took my phone to a repair shop to get my 7a's screen repaired. Couple weeks later screen stopped turning on. Carefully took it off to find the connector not connected and the cover completely missing.

I've tried looking at replacement part stores to no avail. Anyone know where I can buy this part? Preferably in the UK but international if needed.

I bought the repair Kit for the pixel 7a and followed all instructions from ifixit for the replacement. Also configured the fingerprint sensor again. It seems that the proximity sensor is not working anymore. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Do i need to install the sensor again? Same as the fingerprint sensor?
