Google Pixel 5: I Super-Glued my Motherboard... Now the Screen is Silent!

Hi everyone,

I recently opened up my Google Pixel 5 for a battery replacement. During the process, I ran into a bit of trouble with the motherboard contacts located near the front-facing camera.

One of the two large pogo-pin/contact pads (highlighted in the attached photo) detached from the board. Thinking it was held by adhesive, I tried to secure it back using a microscopic amount of super glue on the side, hoping the pressure from the screen would be enough to maintain electrical contact.

Unfortunately, after reassembling the phone, the earpiece (under-display speaker) is completely dead, though the bottom speakerphone works perfectly. I suspect the glue acted as an insulator or the alignment is slightly off.

I have a few questions for the experts here:

Identification: Can someone confirm these are indeed the primary contacts for the piezo-electric screen actuator?

Original Attachment: How are these pins originally attached to the board? Is it standard SMT soldering, or does Google use some form of conductive adhesive/thermal bonding here?

The Fix: I only have a standard soldering iron and a strong magnifying glass (no micro-soldering station or microscope). Is it suicide to try and solder this back with a regular (but very thin) iron?

If yes, what’s the safest technique to avoid bridging nearby components or lifting the pad further?

Should I use a specific type of solder or flux for such a small area?

Alternatives: If soldering is too risky, would a conductive silver epoxy (Contactol) be a viable "cold" solution, or is the signal too sensitive for that?

I’ve attached a photo of the area. You can see where I attempted the glue fix (in the red box). Any advice would be greatly appreciated before I risk opening this fragile screen again!

Thanks in advance!

Google Pixel 5: Other reasons for phone not turning on?

Hello community,

I am trying to repair an old pixel 5, and I'm looking for advice after a few failed attempts.

This phone was returned to me from my family after they noticed it suddenly didn't turn back on. I replaced the battery, observed with an IR scanner that there is some minimal heat on the right-hand side when charging, however this didn't help.

Today I replaced the display, suspecting that it could be the next cause, but again, after charging it for a while, no game.

Now I'm suspecting that it's charging port, but after reading another post on this forum it seems you need microsoldering experience (or rely on an external service). I might have the tools and the skills to do that, but before I take that route, I'd like to know if someone has any ideas on what else could it be.

Thanks!

Google Pixel 5: Why do my speakers only work sometimes?

After having the battery changed in my Pixel 5, the speakers seem to work intermittently. Sometimes they work totally fine. Other times I get fuzzy audio. And then there are times when I get no sound at all. The microphone also seems to come and go. Usually if I restart the phone, I get good audio again for a couple of days. Then the problem returns. Alarms, phone calls, video calls and media playback are all affected. It seems odd that it can work fine for a time and then stop working and then work again after restarting. Anyone have any suggestions as to why? As I say, this problem coincided with the battery being replaced.

Much appreciated.

Google Pixel 5: Vertical pink & white lines appear after pixel 5 battery replacement

I followed the guide for battery replacement.

Screen was 100% functional before attempting repair. Battery was successfully replaced. After connecting display, I turned on display for screen test and there is one pink and several white vertical lines running through the display. There is no visible cracks or damage to the display. I have disconnected and reconnected the display several times hoping I just didn't connect it correctly. There is no visible damage to the LCD connector. Is there something I could have done wrong to cause this?

The only thing I think I may have done is when removing the old glue from display, I left the tempered glass screen protector on causing a small lip around the outside of the display. Could I have pushed down to hard and cracked the display trying to remove the old glue? As I said before, I don't see any damage to the LCD.

Google Pixel 5: Is the power button pressed even if I'm not pressing the power button?

It started on April 6, 2023, when my phone started restarting due to the 'pressed power button' phenomenon. I began to worry about it, then today, once I locked my phone, it began to restart again. It was involved in a boot loop; pressing the bootloader causes the power button to be pressed every second. I have fixed it several times by pressing the power button very hard, but this time, it doesn't work. I have to see why that happened, and even though I didn't press the power button, the phone shuts itself by pressing the power button internally. It causes my phone to heat up, and I need to repair my phone. I think this happened frequently, and pressing the sides of the power button works. I have to know this in the future in case my phone does this, it was due to the Spigen case.

Google Pixel 5: Phone wouldn't turn on. Reseated the battery, mobile radio doesnt work

Woke up this morning (late to work lol because my alarm didn’t go off) to a phone that wouldn’t turn on. Wouldn’t show any signs of charging, nothing. When I got home from work, I opened up the phone and carefully got down to the battery connector, disconnected it, and plugged it back in. Phone charged up just fine and booted just fine after it charged, but now, when I try to make a phone call, it just says to turn off airplane mode (and I’m not in airplane mode). At the recommendation of people online, I typed *#*#4636#*#* and went to the phone information menu. Mobile Radio Power is turned off, and if I turn it on, it wont stay on. This issue wasn’t present at all before last night when the phone worked fine. I restored my phone and reflashed my ROM (CalyxOS) to be sure the software wasnt the issue, and it wasn’t., same issue persists. Any ideas?
