Google Pixel 4a 5G: Google Pixel 4a frozen, then shut off w/out recovery.

I've had the same Google Pixel phone for roughly three years now (23 December 2022, if I remember right, is when I got it). Up until this point, I've had no issues, other than a few occasionally sticky buttons that's easily fixable by pressing them quite hard.

Just a little bit ago, my music froze abruptly, and I had a solid five seconds of "Ah dangit, the wifi's out" before my phone shut off entirely and would not turn on. We're still at that point. Bluetooth earbuds are not connecting, indicating there is nothing going on inside my phone at this point & time.

I've attempted plugging it into my computer, with no discernable response, and the phone will not turn back on no matter how long I hold the power button.

I got a new case + screen protector & added each roughly a week ago-- not to say that's the issue, but I'm throwing it out there in case it contributes.

Any ideas as to how to get my phone up again?

Google Pixel 4a 5G: I this battery safe to use?

Hello, my google pixel 4a 5g had its display broken and im about to fix it soon, so recently I was bored so I opened it up to inspect it from the inside for any other damage and to clean the camera glass from the inside since it had some dirt, but after removing the back cover I found out the battery was slightly deformed from the impact, I attached some photos of the battery from the front and the back, keep in mind those photos are after I used a roller to flatten it a little and for the past year or so the battery was dented like that but I kept using the phone and cycling the battery (charge/discharge) because I still used it by mirroring its screen to my PC and I didn't face any problems with the battery, any help is appreciated!

After cracking screen and then dropping phone briefly in the bath, a short while later the screen died.

I've since got this replaced (sadly I didn't get to look inside) all functionality works (incl. WiFi Bluetooth), except for cellular connection, it shows no service and no networks available under the network selection setting.

Do you think replacing the antenna cable or board is likely to fix this, I'm unsure where the actual antenna itself is (embedded in the back frame?).

Google Pixel 4a 5G: Google Pixel 4a 5G not booting

Hello, I have Google Pixel 4a 5G, long story short is that it fell on the ground like 6 months ago (height like 1 meter), and it stopped working, couldn't charge it and dead display, but I was using other phone for some time, but now I need that phone (at least data), so I bought display replacement part from ifixit.

I replaced display (I was replacing displays many times in my life, so I have experiences with it) and it didn't help, still couldn't turn it on, nothing black screen, it doesn't even vibrate when I plug it into charger. So I disassembled it completely to see if there is not something damaged on the motherboard, everything looks normal, so I thought maybe charging port was broken when it felt on the ground, so I bought USB-C charging port replacement part from ifixit, replaced it and again didn't help.

There are some photos of my disassembled Pixel 4a 5G, maybe you can see something, or you can show me what could I try or measure with multimeter.

I tried to press top side button (power button) when battery was connected and when battery was disconnected too, didn't start, so battery should not be reason, because it doesn't start even without battery connected (just plugged through USB-C port).

I tried to connect it to powerbank too and powerbank was blinking so there should be some power draw to smartphone, I tried to even measure using multimeter voltage old and brand new USB-C charging port and I got some weird values like 0.2V, but I got something, I tried even measure voltage at battery connector port and got similar values, so there is flowing some current through board when plugged to charger.

Now I don't know how to continue :/

Google Pixel 4a 5G: Phone went to black screen

Hello my problem with my Google pixel 4A5G started last week when my screen went blank completely when I was using some of the apps. It had just recently upgraded to Android 13 and before that I had no issues with it. Since then my phone has has shut off about three times and at this current moment is not turning on nor is it charging whenever I try to charge the phone all I get is this overheating. So far the phone in terms of Hardware is solid it has never been dropped. I purchased the phone this year and I've only had it for at least six or seven months so I'm not sure if it's a software issue or a hardware issue, but it's mostly with apps that utilize motion or video where the screen will just go black. I will hear the sounds the vibrations and everything but I'm unable to do anything with the phone in terms of touch or see the screen.

Google Pixel 4a 5G: Reattach spring (finger) contact

I'm trying to repair a Pixel 4a 5G, and in the process, took the midbody off the back to air it out (it had some minor water exposure that killed the screen).

In the process, one of the very small spring contacts came off the PCB on the left edge of the phone (on your right if you're looking at the back of the midbody, at all the phone's internals). This is a contact that's meant to press against another contact in the back of the phone. I still have the detached contact.

My soldering skills are, well, crappy. I reattached it at one point with some one-part conductive epoxy, but it's come off again. What would be the best way to put it back? 2-part epoxies are available, although very expensive. I could try my hand at soldering, but am afraid I could really mess things up.

Google Pixel 4a 5G: Bluetooth hardly working after repair

Hi everybody.

I would like to ask a question about bluetooth connectivity with the Pixel a 5G..

I very recently repaired my own Pixel phone (screen and usb charging assembly had to be replaced due to damage), and I followed the iFixit repair guide as best I could. Everything went great, my phone is (almost) like new. Or so I thought, because I realised today that bluetooth connectivity is greatly reduced.

As an example, I have a bluetooth headset, and it wouldn't connect to my device as it used to before the repair. After a few tries I came to understand that my device now has a bluetooth range of practically zero. When I can establish a connection between my phone and the headset, I have to keep the phone in very, very close range otherwise, the link wil drop because the headset cannot find the phone anymore.

So I guess my question is : has anyone ever encountered a similar situation ?

I suppose that I didn't put everything back together as I should have, but what exactly ? The Wi-Fi works perfectly fine, and I have no trouble placing calls with the phone. Is it just the antenna that isn't properly secured. If so, why is only the bluetooth impaired and not the Wi-Fi ? Or did I damaged something else during disassembly and/or reassembly ?

If I have to open my phone once more, I want to be sure that the antenna is really what needs to be fixed in order to restore proper bluetooth connectivity.

Thanks in advance.

Google Pixel 4a 5G: Dust inside camera housing

Hello,

I have gotten dust inside the camera housing (see picture), over the normal lens. It affects photos taken with colors not being as good as they should, and graining, especially in sunny conditions. I was thinking about following the IFIXIT back cover replacement guide (Google Pixel 4a 5G Back Cover Replacement) to get access to the cameras and replace the dust sealant from the inside thinking that the dust has come in between the frame and back cover. But i also read somewhere that the camera housing is a separate piece and that the dust may have come in from the gap between the back cover and camera house on the backside. And that it might be possible to just slightly lift the edge of the camera housing and blow out the dust. My question is if the back cover replacement guide is the bets bet to try and fix it or if there is a easier way.

Google Pixel 4a 5G: Pixel 4a 5G Dead Motherboard after screen replacement?

My Pixel 4A 5G started showing a black screen. Initially, this could be solved by force restarting (via Power + Vol Up) the phone. This lasted for a couple of days before the screen seemingly completely died.

As the screen had been cracked before, and the phone still responded (alarm still triggered, vibrated, etc) I was fairly happy that the screen alone was the issue.

I replaced the screen, and the battery using iFixit parts - however, on re-assembly, the phone will not boot, either by long pressing the power button, tapping the power button, or Power + Vol Up.

I've checked and re-seated all connections that are removed during the process, and though I've not sealed down the new screen with adhesive, I'm reasonably happy that it's correctly seated.

The phone still appears to draw a charge (activates a power brick when plugged in), but is otherwise totally unresponsive.

I'm wondering the phone was somehow actually powered up when I first removed the damaged screen, and if so, presumably has short circuited or otherwise damaged the mainboard?

Welcoming any thoughts or suggestions!
