Google Pixel 2: The screen is black and unresponsive, but the phone still works.

Hey, so yesterday I dropped my Google Pixel 2, and since then the screen has been unresponsive. The phone itself is actually on, as I accidentally called someone, and my alarms have been ringing all day (I can't turn them off). Does anyone know what to do or what might be wrong? Any and all help would be appreciated, thanks~!

Google Pixel 2: Echo after phone reassembly

I’m having an issue with an echo heard on the recipient side of calls after fixing my Pixel 2. I followed the instructions for the battery replacement kit and ended up needing a new display. Since I needed to order a new display I ended up ordering a new charging circuit as well (the original USB-C was super loose). I completed the charging circuit replacement (and saw the note at the bottom about remembering to move the microphone board over as well). I put the phone completely back together, and before sealing the display with adhesive, powered the phone on and made a brief call to verify all was working and sounding good. All has gone well in the 1 week since the repair. I’m finding now though that recipients of my calls hear what they describe as an echo of their own voice, delayed by a few milliseconds. The echo can’t be heard from my end and I’ve verified it with a few more calls. I tested a little bit more, and when I turn speaker-phone on my end, my call recipients claim the echo goes away.

Google Pixel 2: Why does the screen keep lifting up?

I replaced the battery and display in my Pixel 2. Put everything back together, went great. Screen works.

BUT. The screen keeps lifting up. I used brand new adhesive and made sure all the old adhesive was removed. Took it apart, re-set everything again with new adhesive, but it still keeps lifting up.

It’s almost like either the battery itself is too thick, or the cable on the back of the new display is too thick? Has anyone else had this problem?

Google Pixel 2: Battery replaced but screen shows static

I made it all the way through the instructions but when I replaced the screen the screen shows nothing but static like an analog tv with no signal.
Google Pixel 2: Screen is black, but touch works fine

My Pixel 2 began having a problem where the screen would freeze while audio continued for about 10 seconds at a time, then one day it froze and didn’t unfreeze, and when I locked the phone, the screen stayed black. I know that the phone is still operating normally, as I can use Google Assistant to control bluetooth, and if I remember where buttons are, I can tap them and feel the haptic feedback. Also, I can view screenshots on my computer, so I can kind of see what is happening in the phone, but the display won’t turn on.

I would assume this was a broken screen, but it seems odd to me that touch works perfectly fine. Is anyone familiar with this issue?

Update: I just found out I can make the screen turn back on by pressing really hard on the left middle of the screen.

Google Pixel 2: Can a cracked screen damage the phone

I posted something similar to the pixel subreddit a bit ago but haven’t seen a response.

I bought a replacement battery off Amazon a few months back since my Pixel 2 was exhibiting the same "dying battery" symptoms as my Nexus 5 did years ago. I was very hesitant to do the replacement myself for fear of breaking the screen. I've done lots of iPhone screen/battery replacements as well as replacing my N5 battery and screen several times all without issue. I was not concerned about the process, just about dealing with a glued down screen.

Of course, my fears were justified. Not only did I use too much heat on one corner of the screen and turned it white, I was too aggressive near the bottom and ended up cracking the screen.

I continued the battery replacement and re-attached the cracked/burned screen to see what would display. I got a few flashes of light but really nothing else. As I powered it on I could feel the vibration motor confirm power on.

I decided to put everything back together except for the screen. I left it detached and put the phone on the charger. Two days later, my new screen from Amazon arrived and I connected it. Got no response from the screen but again felt the vibration motor do its thing. The screen was completely dark.

Now I just got another replacement screen from Amazon on the assumption the original was bad. Before I attempt this again, is there anything that I could've done during the battery replacement that could have damaged the phone in some other way? I'd think the fact that the phone vibrates after powering it on indicates the phone should work. Could the screen connector be damaged / shorted somehow? I've looked at the connector with my magnifying headset but don't see anything wrong and the battery replacement went smoothly following the iFixit guide.

Does anyone have any ideas before I potentially destroy another screen? Does powering the phone on without a screen damage the phone? Can I power on the phone without the screen attached and try to see it from a computer? Can I disconnect the battery and power up the phone only on the charger (to eliminate a wonky battery)? Any other things to attempt? Are there schematics floating around anywhere? I'm not against probing around with a multi-meter if necessary.

Google Pixel 2: Slipped and damaged a golden contact point with screwdriver :-(

Hello all!

Since my last post had received some very helpful and kind answers, I have another question to ask. A while back I was replacing the back glass on my pixel 2.... and slipped with the screwdriver. I hit the motherboard from behind and as a result caused a dent at the speaker contact point. Now all the top speaker does is make a crackling sound that never ends.

I have attached a pic. The bottom golden point that was obviously damaged got hit from behind. Is there a way to fix this without resorting to microsoldering? On the second pic, the speaker and its two golden contact points are visible. If I use a piece of tape to block the bottom pin from connecting to the dented point, the speaker doesnt engage at all unfortunately. It may need both connected to work. When I sticked a piece of copper tape on it, the audio started to falter intermittently.

Google Pixel 2: Display faulty after battery replacement - found connector damaged

I replaced the battery of my Pixel 2 after the iFixit-instruction.

After reassambling the display behaves odd - display is very dark, and if I slide the brightness settings slightly higher, the display gets very greenish and I see a lot of display shifts and artifacts.

I tested both displays with anoterh px2 device - there it works.

I had a look with a microscope (at my company) around the display connector, and noticed that two tiny components are clearly missing (solder points broken out), which most likely happened during removing of the display connector.
Could this be the reason?

Now the questions:

which components are at this location?

Can I buy replace?

How or who can I could solder it onto the board? I have no special solder equipment for this purpose (only a good microscope at work...).

The chance to find these broken components on my desk is very small (or nearle 0%).

Google Pixel 2: Screen repair gone wrong, can't find the culprit

Hi Fixers,

I recently bought a pixel 2 with a cracked screen with the intent of replacing it. I purchased a new screen as well as a new battery. When I plug in the new screen, the device buzzes (indicating it’s at least responding to the power button being pressed) and my computer also recognizes that a device is being attached - so it’s not completely dead. The screen sometimes does a very swift white flash but otherwise remains completely black. I find it somewhat hard to believe that the motherboard’s display connector is broken, but I am at a loss for what else it could be.

One more piece of info that might be important: I can start the device twice by holding the power button, after which I need to unplug the battery in order to get it to respond to me powering it on again. Not sure why this is the case but might be worth mentioning.

Thank you and kind regards!
