How can I connect the base with the cordless phone? Plug in with power but no sign from the base.

I replaced the battery in the handset 2 yrs. ago & I can’t re-program the phone. Also, need to preserve 4 mssgs. and erase others for current use. Help!

GE phone 29586 has lost display lighting and is almost impossible to see. I think this was an instant failure a few years ago. All other functions work. Anyone know the solution?
