Gateway NE56R49u: Powers on and fan starts up then stops

I have a laptop that is similar to the Gateway NE56R49u but seem to be having issues recently. It worked a couple days ago, but now all of a sudden it stopped working. The laptop powers up and the LEDs are fine, but the fan starts up for a couple of seconds then stops, and the lights still seem to be on its. just the fan stops. I tried disconnecting everything from the motherboard but nothing seems to fix the issue. I also put new thermal paste on cpu but no luck. I’m unsure if theres anything else I can try because replacing the motherboard is the last resort but its not preferable.

Gateway NE56R49u: Lost internet connection from my router

I have lost my internet connection.

If I go to “tools, internet options, set up” and try to create a new connection, my only choice is a broadband connection. I’m using a NetGear router that is working fine on another laptop just 3 feet away from the router. I am not in airplane mode.

I should add that the Gateway had no problems with this router until a couple of days ago. The router itself seems to be working fine but I did shut it off and rebooted it this afternoon.

Gateway NE56R49u: Gateway NE56R49u won't power on, no power LED.

First off, I’m a computer tech by trade so I do know a bit about diagnosing but this thing is DEAD!

There is no power LED on laptop. They replaced battery thinking that was the issue. I checked the power on the power brick with a multi-meter, it’s putting out 19v. It felt like the power connector was loose, so I used the Disassembly article to get to the power connector thinking I might have to resolder it to the mother board or something. Nope, it’s a separate connector that, by design, is just a little loose feeling. So after inspecting things quite thoroughly, I reassembled making sure that all the connectors were good and tight. It still has the same issue with either the old battery and/or the new battery.

Any ideas?
