My E, D, and C keys on the keyboard have stopped working. This persists across multiple distributions of Linux, so I believe it is a hardware issue.

Gateway MS2285: Forgot password, Safe mode with command prompt not working

I have a gateway ms2273 that I need some old files from and can't remember the password. I try to reset in safe mode but when I get to selecting "safe mode with command prompt" my screen loads files and says wait, then goes to black with no further options followed by the windows login screen...again, yet in safe mode. Any ideas how to get around this?

By saying that my computer screen is not working, it does it turns on fine. The problem is when I turn on the computer it takes me to the screen were I have to put my password, but i try to type it and it doesn't let me and I try to move the mouse it doesn't let me either. So what's wrong with the screen or keyboard .

Gateway MS2285: display and overheating after only a few seconds

I have this gateway and after I turn on my game it seems to instantly overheat and my backlight goes out. research states that it would be the backlight switch, BIOs or the motherboard, which does not explain the overheating as well. please help
