Garmin Fenix 5x: Garmin Fenix 5X not turning on – Battery reads 0V, need advice

I picked up a Garmin Fenix 5X in excellent physical condition at a flea market for an insanely cheap price. The catch is—it won’t power on at all. From what I can tell, it hasn’t been turned on or charged in a very long time.

I opened it up and found no signs of corrosion, damage, or tampering—it looks untouched, and I’m pretty sure I’m the first one to ever open it. The battery is completely cold and reads 0.00V on the multimeter. I’m planning to order a replacement battery soon.

But here’s my main question: can a Garmin watch (specifically the Fenix 5X) with a completely flat/dead battery refuse to boot or respond at all, even when plugged into the charger? Or should I suspect something else?

Really appreciate your help in advance.
