Game Boy Advance: Display Malfunctions After Ribbon Cable Replacement

I tried to replace a ripped ribbon cable for my Funny Playing screen. All of the ribbons seem to be in their slots fine, but this is my display. When I put in a game, it starts up and plays the audio, but the screen is just this. Any ideas where I went wrong or how I can fix this?

Game Boy Advance: My screen is on but there is no display

So I have a GBA I modded and the IPS worked fine but now I notice that the Display isn’t working properly. I can tell it has power because the backlight is on and the brightness will adjust but there is no actual display. I’m fairly certain at this point that it is not the ribbon because I have repositioned and reseated it multiple times but with the same end effect. Also, I did install a Dehum/Dehiss kit in that it worked fine with before as well.

Game Boy Advance: Gameboy advance won't turn on

Hi All

I bought a GBA off of ebay, and it was working fine for about three months (except the volume dial), so I opened it, and put a small amount of isopropal alcohol on the knob area, and turned it a fair amount, let it dry and the game boy was functioning perfectly, like new.

Then one day I turned it on, and nothing, the power light comes on, and there is a slight crackle/pop when turning the dial.

Tried multiple cartridges from GBA, GBC, and GB, tried several batteries, but nothing.

As mentioned, you switch it on, the power light goes green, but that’s it, nothing on screen, no sound to even indicate if it’s an issue with the display.

Game Boy Advance: Gameboy Advance No power no corrosion replaced power switch

As the title says I have a Indigo gameboy I am planning on reshelling and customizing thing is it gets no power. I replaced the power switch with a new one that appears to work however still no power. I do not see any corrosion on the board or battery contacts so ruled that out. Checked my soldering on the new power switch and seems to be ok. So I am at a loss. Any idea on what to test and how to test it would be great

Game Boy Advance: Cleaning with vinegar vs IPA

Hi all,

I live in the UK, where IPA is extremely expensive (like 5-10x more expensive than the USA). I’ve heard people sometimes use vinegar to clean electronics, is this sensible/will it damage the electronics? I’m trying to restore my old Gameboy Advance and have a few other old handhelds laying around that I need to clear off some dirt and/or corrosion on the circuit boards.

If this is okay, what type of vinegar is best?

Game Boy Advance: How to fix damaged Gameboy Advance power switch?

So I went to fix the typical “gameboy won’t power on” issue with these by desoldering the metal cover to the internal power switch and cleaning it out with isopropyl alcohol, but when I turned over the internal switch, I noticed that one of the contacts were missing!

I’ve never seen anything quite like this before and figured I could just get a replacement switch online, but I haven’t been able to find any replacement parts! (I’ve actually found just one but it’s quite an unfavorable price).

I was wondering if anyone knew a way to somehow fix the internal switch by adding on some sort of alternative inside contact, or where I can buy a replacement from (heck if anyone happens to have spare parts lying around, let me know).

Also, in regards to buying a replacement, could I buy an internal switch replacement for a different device, like the DS lite? I know the housing pins of the casing for the internal power switch are not the same with the two devices, but I only need the switch inside the housing of the switch, and was wondering if I could just swap out the power switch itself.

Here is a picture for reference - I circled the contact that is missing for me:

Game Boy Advance: The front light turns on but not the display?

I ordered a front light for my gba and soldered the wires as instructed the front light turns on but not the display. The light is from handheld legend. I believe it’s because the black wire grabbed a bit of the bottom piece of the power switch instead of just the side when I soldered it.
