Game Boy: Gameboy has bootup sound but no screen and battery LED (IPS Screen)

I have an old gameboy with a busted screen but it turns on and plays the boot up sound even though the battery LED is not on... so I replaced it with an IPS screen kit hoping that only the screen is the issue.

Finally got it replaced but still no LED battery light and no screen turning on.

My batteries are fully charged and the battery contacts are clean as well as the back board... at least I think tis clean.

What do I need to do? Is this still fixable or do I need to buy a fully working gameboy

Game Boy: Gameboy Not Booting Games Properly. Blank Screen & No Sound with Game.

I recently bought a non working Play it Loud Gameboy DMG online. I opened it up and gave everything a good cleaning. There was very little to no corrosion. I only found a very tiny patch on one game reader pin near the bottom of the reader that I cleaned. When I turn the system on with no game, it loads and stays on properly. I can also hear the white noise of the speaker. If any game is inserted, the Nintendo logo comes down and makes the iconic beep. After the beep I hear a small flicker in the white noise of the speaker and both sound/screen cut completely. The red light remains on as well. I'm not well versed on using a multi-meter, so I'm not quite sure where to start with diagnosing this issue.

Game Boy: Power on blank screen no sound

Hi! I bought a lot of gameboys and theres one that is giving me some trouble. The power led turns on normally but there's no image display or sound. I tested the "top" half of the gameboy with another one and the LCD screen and speakers do work so I limited the problem to the motherboard side of the console. However I can't seem to further locate the problem, no signs or corrosion of damage on any of the components. Has anyone encountered this before, any hints on where to start lookin for damaged components?

Game Boy: DMG-01 No Sound and Black Screen

hey all ,

i bought DMG-01 with leaking batteries .

the seller said its used to work but he hadn’t touched it for years .

i completely disassembled the DMG , cleaned all the corrosion with white vinegar and IPA.

put new batteries in . turned it on and nothing , no sound at all and no screen -BLACK.

so i started to troubleshoot the problem . figured out there was some corrosion in the headphones jack so i unsoldered the jack , put it in vinegar , cleaned it and double checked continuity with multimeter, all good with it and it works the way it should .

i soldered it back , and now when i turn on the DMG i can hear *Poop* from the speaker - but that’s it , the same when i plug the headphones.

i checked the sound pot with multimeter and it works but i can’t hear any sound change if i turn it .

for the screen is the same , checked the contrast pot and it seems to work but the screen is black .

no visible damage at all to anything.

any idea to what else i can check , is there any blueprints for Ref that i can follow ?

thanks

Game Boy: No power after backlight and bivert installation...

I recently installed a backlight kit and a bivert board (compact version) in my 1989 Game Boy DMG. Before install, the device powered up, but I had vertical lines in the screen, which I intended to fix after installing the backlight and bivert board.

I’ve finished installing the backlight and bivert board, but now, the device won’t power up at all. No red power light, no backlit screen.

Has anyone else ever had this trouble? Is it possible that I ruined or disconnected another pin that would affect power while soldering the bivert board in place?

Prior to my install:

Device powered up without trouble

Buttons were responsive

Connector pins were solid; no trouble with reading games

Vertical lines on the left and right of screen

I cleaned up what corrosion I could find on the motherboard and in the battery casing

Game Boy: Doesn't show nintendo logo or black bar. Sometimes runs a game?

As described above, the gameboy doesn’t ever load the Nintendo logo (or black bar when no cartridge is inserted). No sound ‘ding’ either.

I know that the logo is a sort of ‘genuine hardware’ / handshake operation, but it seems that this is going wrong on this device.

The interesting thing is, about once every 10 hard resets (just off-on) it loads straight into the game, skipping the logo step entirely.

Game Boy: No screen and no sound

I've had this particular game boy for about 3 or 4 years. It worked fine until now but then it just stopped working. The red LED turns on but there is no sound and no image on the screen.

I decided to take it apart and clean it. I put it back together and... Nothing. I left it sitting a couple of hours and decided to try again. This time the screen turned on normally. I was relieved but decided to unplug and replug the top board just in case to see if it would still work. It didn't. I had no sound and no image again.

At first I thought a cap blew. I checked all of them and saw that none of them look bad (I can't check them since I don't own a multimeter). Is it even possible that a cap would be faulty if the screen turned on when I tried but then stopped working again?

Game Boy: Corrosion and a bunch of weird issues with my DMG

So I bought this gameboy off of Ebay, My plan was to take a less-than-pretty machine and give it a cool new case. When I got the gameboy it would turn on but the LED wouldn't light up. not a huge deal really as long as the games work.

They don't...

So I put in Mario land and boot it up. the Nintendo logo goes down as usual but after that it crashes. Same thing for Dr. Mario. Pokemon Blue won't even load the Nintendo screen. it just crashes instantly upon boot up. However what's weird is that Tetris Attack and Turok 2 WILL boot up and work just fine except the sound is just obnoxious buzzing, even with headphones. Now, ALL of my games work perfectly on any other console I've tried them on so it ain't my games.

I open it up to see what the problem is and there's battery corrosion all over the back mother board. There's corrosion on the receiver for the ribbon wire where the metal parts connect to the board. The tip of the ribbon wire itself has corrosion on a few of it's connectors.

So I look up how to maybe clean this up. Mainly I get forums saying use vinegar and clean it with rubbing alcohol. I begin to do that. the system itself looks much nicer than before but the main problem areas still look rusted or burnt or something. After all of that cleaning I put it back together and it's not fixed at all. it's not any more messed up but it's still not loading games. I'm confused because if it was completely broke it wouldn't load any games at all! it's just... picky. The buzzing sound is still there too. The LED still doesn't work but I'm not AS concerned with that. Can anyone give me some advice on this issue?

A really freaky crackling noise comes out of my game boy when it loads games, and the speakers haven't worked for years! Does anyone know what causes this? I don't use the gb now because of this.

Game Boy: No power to gameboy (original) with new batteries OR power adapter

Hello All,

I have recently had a itch to play my original Gameboy. But I when I went to play it there was no power going to the system. I have tried new batteries and a power adaptor to get power to the gameboy, but without any luck.

I have taken it apart to clean the battery connections, in case there is any corrosion, but they all seem to be in a reasonable condition.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what to try next? And are there any guides out there that may help me? I have googled searched, but many of the guides that I have found relate to corroded battery connections.

I accidentally scraped off some of the copper plating while I was cleaning it. It still turns on but the screen stays blank and makes no sounds. What should I do?
