Floor Lamp: Touch activated floor lamp unresponsive to touch

Floor Lamp: Metal Floor Lamp Repair

I have a metal floor lamp that consists of a pole that is attached to the base by means of a screw passing through the base and into a ‘nut’ that is positioned on the bottom of the pole. The bottom is now broken and consequently not now possible to re-attach to the base. A local welder (at a car repairer) has tried to do a welding job but was unable to do so - indicating to me that the metal was not ‘weldable’ (he suggested that it was an alloy).

Does anyone have an alternative suggestion for the repair, rather than replacing the entire lamp?

The three images are of the broken base of pole, broken base of pole with the screw as it should be placed, and the metal base of the floor lamp that the pole sits upon.

There does not appear to be very much surface area of the base to be able to glue the screw collar to, but any further comments would be very much appreciated.

Two further images submitted as very kindly requested. Does that help you at all?

At this point, I am wondering whether it is possible to place a washer inside the base and another (larger diameter) one outside the base passing the existing screw through both and securing in place with a reasonable quantity of Epoxy Resin adhesive. Would that work, do you think?

Floor Lamp: How to tighten loose hinges on an adjustable lamp? It won't stay put!

We just bought a floor lamp with plastic friction hinges that allow the light to be adjusted simply by moving it, but one of the hinges is too loose and the light doesn't always stay put.

The circular discs on the sides look like some type of cover plug, but the plastic is fairly soft and I don't know how to remove them (if that's even necessary) without damaging them.

I also see a tiny Allen set screw holding the hinge to the tube, but again—I don't know if it's worthwhile removing it.

Even if I could disassemble it I have no idea if the hinge can be tightened.

Alternatively, is there anything I could spray into the hinge to tighten it? I've seen someone use moldable plastic to tighten the joints on a Godzilla figurine, but they disassembled the figure first. That video mentioned said they used to use Pledge Floor Care, but after a trip through the looking glass it appears that Pledge Floor Care has been reformulated and won't work the same any longer.

So... any ideas on dismantling the hinge, or on something like Loctite to make the hinge a little grabbier?

Thanks so much!

I have a nice floor lamp at home that has the potentiometers circuit broken (I checked the fuses already) does anyone know if these potentiometers are standard? Where can I buy a new one to fix my lamp?

Details about the make and model here: http://amzn.eu/d/ftMo7vc .

It uses halogen bulbs which explain that the potentiometer is rated at 300W which is absourdely large and inefficient. If I had a way to upgrade the lamp to an LED light bulb I would have a go with it, although I am afraid that will overcomplicate things.
