Eureka Vacuum: Brush roller keeps spinning in selector's hose position

With the floor/hose selector in “hose” position and the vacuum upright, the brush roller keeps spinning, threatening to overheat the motor and thermal cutoff occurs. I cleaned every accessible part of the vacuum (already clean and unobstructed) and repaired a small felt piece that cushions the roller against the bottom plate near the drive belt. The belt seems fine.

The brush roller is supposed to be still when the vacuum is in the upright position and “hose” is selected. How to repair?

Eureka EasyClean 71C: Riser visor slows brushes in standard position

Love this vacuum, but noticed the brush making a click when first starting. I cleaned the brushes and in the process of doing so, noticed that the brushes run full speed when I have the riser visor in the upright position (as if you were cleaning the sides of stairs), but slows or stops when I move it back to the floor cleaning position.

I removed the visor and checked that the spacer was seated correctly. Everything is fine there.

Any suggestions?
