epson eh-tw650: EPSON EH-TW650 - won't power on

I got hold of this EPSON EH-TW650 which won’t turn on.

Inserting the power cable, you can hear a whine from the power supply as it powers up for about 10 seconds before that is replaced with a higher pitched whine from then on. Power/status LED’s don’t light up, the fans don’t run, the lamp does not power up.

When I first received this projector, I stripped it down to take a quick look and put it all back together, and it turned on! It stayed working for a few days until one day during operation it died again.

What I have tried so far:

I have replaced the power supply entirely as I believed it was not providing power properly to the board (replacement power supply shows exact same behaviour as previous one)

Searched the processor board over and over again for obvious bad caps with a multi-meter (I am an absolute novice at this, so it’s possible that the board is shorting or something and I just can’t find out where). Part of me wants to doubt it’s the processor board simply because it was working totally fine just a few days ago

What is most likely to be the problem? I’m most confused because after my first strip down the projector started working again totally fine. I should mention that when it died again after my first strip down I was moving the projector and believe the power cord shifted slightly, which is when it died.

Note: I have tried powering the projector on with the lamp cover on etc… as I know that the projector won’t power on without the cover. The fans/status lights should power on whether or not the lamp cover is attached.

Here’s a video of me inserting the power cable, if you turn your volume all the way up you can hear the power supply

Epson Projector: Is this lamp worth keeping? 4k hour rating, 3.6k current hours

I have an Epson projector I got with a blown lamp at one point, at which point I pulled a 3.5k lamp from a dead EX3210 (same as the EX3212, without HDMI). I got a NOS lamp on eBay from someone who had some cheap OEM lamps in box, so I got a new lamp for the price of a knockoff; the 3.5k hour lamp got me enough time to put a proper replacement in the EX3212 :-).

However, I am torn on the lamp, having 3,523 hours on the clock. The ELPLP67 is rated for 4k hours on normal power, 5k on Eco (probably less with a mix, I think this one had 3.2k normal, 300 hours Eco). I still have ~750 hours left on it, but it's so close to the rated limit I'm wondering if it's worth keeping around or not.

Is this worth keeping as a spare lamp (noting the high hours) or a tester, or is it time to hang it up and say goodbye to this lamp? I replaced it now so I didn’t have have to worry about it anymore as the counter was not right on the unit since I reset it to clear the nag since some projectors shutdown when it’s “consumed”. I don’t think Epson does, but I wasn’t quite sure.

Epson Projector: Am I out of luck with my projector?

I have a higher end Epson laser projector, specifically a Pro L1100U. It won't turn on nor am I getting any indicator lights. I called Epson's customer service and they told me that since the unit is out of warranty, they won't touch it, and to take it to a 3rd-party Authorized Service Center. I called the nearest service center and got told that I had a nice fancy paper weight since it's likely my main logic board that had failed, Epson no longer sells that part, and even if they did or if I replaced it with a used board, it would need to go back to the factory for calibration, which Epson doesn't allow the service center to do, or any work on these projectors for that matter. This seems like a major Right to Repair issue as it's not a particularly old unit (warranty expired in 2022). Am I out of luck or do I have a lawsuit on my hands?

Epson Projector: How to replace temperature gauge in Epson Projector or potential fixes

Hi everyone,

We bought an Epson Home Cinema 1080 3LCD projector that keeps turning off because it constantly says it’s overheating, even when it’s cool to the touch. We cannot take it to Epson for warranty, and I’d like to fix it myself. I can’t find the parts online, so if there’s any other temporary fix I can do I’m also open to suggestions. So far people have said “just buy a new one” but I don’t have another $800 to dish out at the moments. Thanks!

Epson EMP-TW1000: Is there a start-up sequence to put the unit into 'service mode'?

Most projectors have a sequence using the buttons to initiate a 'service mode' upon power up where resets can be made. My unit is flashing the red temp light at a 1 second interval. This resulted from overheating due to a dirty filter. There are 3 thermocouples in the unit but there is no apparent damage. It seems that the microprocessor needs to be reset now that everything is cleaned and the unit is cool.
