DogWatch Hidden Fence: How can I find/detect where the loop/wire is broken?

This is a electric pet system where the wire is buried under ground (~6 inches), starting from the transmitter and is looped around your yard as a boundary line back to the transmitter. The transmitter sends a coded digital FM radio signal through the boundary wire and is picked up by the pet's collar when the pet gets too close to the boundary. I know I have a break because of the indications on the transmitter. It's very expensive to have the company send a rep out to find the break. I tried using a transistor radio with no luck. Then I have to fix the wire once I find it...yikes!

DogWatch Hidden Fence: The invisible dog fence alarm is delayed. Is it broken?

I have an invisible underground fence for my dogs. The alarm is supposed to sound when the line is broken. I came home one day and the alarm was on. I unplugged the system and plugged it back in and no alarm…. but then with in about 5 minutes the alarm went off again. I tried again, unplugged it, plugged it back in, and no alarm for about 20 minutes. Why would there be a delay? Maybe I don’t have a broken line and I have a broken main hub. Anyone have a theory on why there would be a delay in the alarm like this??? Thanks in advance!
