Dell XPS 8500: Cannot boot machine, not even into safe mode.

Hello everyone,

My pc has run into some trouble here and I think it’s toast but before I just to that conclusion I’d like some opinions from you guys. I honestly don’t know a ton about computers. I uploaded some pictures of what seems to need the green screen of death

This dell XPS8500 is from approximately 2012.

Things I’ve tried with no luck;

booting into safe mode

Restoring windows

repair utility

booting from usb

letting the green screen sit over night

Most of the menus are in the magnified state which makes it almost impossible to do anything I was able to navigate a few of them comparing them with pics from google search.

Thanks for any help,

Matt

Dell XPS 8500: Odds this will run Win11?

I've had this system for a long time due to what I paid for it and how well it has held up over time with the i7-3770 CPU. I've also looked into upgrading it to something newer but I could never justify it due to how well the system has held up. Sadly I think it met the final boss with Win11: TPM required/8th gen+ CPU required.

Look I'm okay with taking the L on this XPS if need be but my issue now is if this will work I'm doing so at higher risk until I know it will work for sure, especially since this system is no longer supported by Dell. If I need to take an L on the Dell and upgrade it to 10 and stay there until 2025, so be it.

I've held onto it so long since I paid $40 for it a few years ago from someone who wanted it gone - this will be hard to beat. A lot of newer prebuilts are sardine cans with nonstandard motherboard and power supply combinations - it's a hard sell when this has held up so well. I will never get NVMe on 3rd gen but I've never been unhappy with it otherwise.

Besides the fact I'm potentially screwed on 6th gen unnecessarily, what hope do I have for Windows beyond 10 with the XPS?

Dell XPS 8500: How do I get the Win8 BIOS key to work?!

I have been fighting to get Win8.1 to install (properly) on this system and it has NOT worked so far, even with multiple media trials. Sadly, I have no choice as the previous owner wanted to keep the hard drive and they put it in their new system. I did this as follows:

Win8.1 multi-language (USB) - FAIL

Win8.1 Single Language (USB) - FAIL

Dell OEM DVD (Found through dumb luck) - FAIL

Old Win8 DVD (Non-OEM Dell) - FAIL

Placeholder key and product key finder - FAIL

I have also contacted Dell to get new media (prior to finding it, but I already sent it off) as I put the system in my name and had the previous owner’s data (They were okay with me having it. Don’t worry.) so I was able to transfer the system over to me so I shouldn’t have an issue with this, but the system may come up as including it as it was a refurb.

In addition, I investigated downgrading the BIOS (I have A12 installed; pre patching) and I just can’t do it as it notices I’m doing a downgrade. GRR. Is there ANY way I can test if the key was lost to time (and lost it’s Win8 identity) making this a complete waste of time or is there a way I can force the issue? I’m at a loss as to what to do :(.

Dell XPS 8500: Can't reboot after install display card driver

HELP, I have a Dell XPS 8500 circa 2013. The screen (Dell E2213 monitor) turned weird today with fuzzy and flashing images. I thought it was the display card problem, so I deleted the Nvidia GoForce GT 640 from the Device Manager in Safe Mode, then restarted the computer and clicked Update to refresh the driver, but it didn’t help and actually made the thing even worse - the screen turned so light I can hardly see anything. Then I used Dell’s SupportAssist to diagnose the machine and within such support software I downloaded and installed the driver for the Nvidia display adapter, then the machine is totally dead - I can’t even reboot it. Do you know what I should do to revive the computer? Thanks a million. Michael

Dell XPS 8500: No signal and enters power save when turning on PC and Monitor.

Hi, I have a Dell XPS 8500 and a Dell LCD Monitor that I haven’t used in several months. I decided to dust it out and start it up. When I turned the PC and Monitor on, I immediately got “(Dell S2340L) Entering Power Save Mode” and “…no signal coming from your computer…) messages. I searched the net and thought it was something about the CMOS Battery needing to be replaced. So I replaced it and it’s still showing the same messages on start up. I switched between 1 VGA and 3 HDMI cables and no luck! I tried following solutions with the same issues from the Dell Technologies website too, didnt work… help.

Dell XPS 8500: Dell XPS 8500 Fans turn On and Off Continuously initial power up

My XPS 8500, Windows 10 will not power up. When I press the power button all the fans and front light will come on for 2 seconds then off for 2 second and won’t startup. This continues until I hold the power button down or unplug. I have had this problem periodically in the past and I would remove the Memory cards and reseat them and it would then power up fine. This time it won’t. I have unplugged and removed the battery for a while, also replaced battery…no help. I have tried new Memory cards…no help. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to get it powered up?

Dell XPS 8500: My monitor is saying no signal after restart of pc

every time I restart my pc I get hit with a no signal screen on my monitor, the only thing I can do is turn my pc off and on again and that fixes it but, that’s the problem I currently have no access to my computer bc I I don’t know my password and I can’t reset my password bc of no WiFi so my only option that I see so far is trying a full hard reset of the pc which I can’t do due to the fact that whenever I try that it says no signal until I turn it off and on again. Maybe this is an unfixable problem but if anyone could I’d very much appreciate it.
