Dell Vostro 1400: Battery life is short

I have had my Dell Vostro 1400 for almost a year now and the past few weeks the battery has not been lasting long. I will charge it all the way but still the life will only last for about 4 hours. I went and bought a new charging cable so I that is not the problem. How do I know when it is time to replace the battery?

My laptop will turn on but there is no display on the screen. I tried turning it off and back on but I had the same issue. What should I do to fix this issue?

Dell Vostro 1400: Speakers stopped working after plugging in my headphones.

I plugged my headphones into my laptop and it worked fine but when I removed them the speakers wouldn't play. I tried messing with the audio settings a bit but I still can't get them to work, anyone have any ideas?
