Dell Precision 5560: stripped screw and I dont have power tools. (dell precision 5560)

so lately i have noticed that the screws get loose and literally fall off my laptop. figured i could just screw it back in but i only had flathead screwdrivers. i had to work with that. specifically only two screws kept falling and at this point its 5 to 6 times. so i figured ill just buy some new screws and remove all the old screws and put in the new one. but i could only manage to get 6 out and two were very stripped and screwed in very tightly (completely unrelated 2 screws compared to the one i talked before.) now the old screws were starheads and i bought new screwdrivers to take them out but i cant seem to remove these two. i tried the rubber band method and many more. at this point only three options are creating a mold and making a screwdriver for those screws, using wd-40 to loosen them and using powertools to make it flathead. but i dont wanna destroy the gorgeous aluminium back plate and i also dont have power tools. is there any other way to remove it? if so please do tell me. and also the spaces for them are very tight. i dont have a phone so i dont know how to show you guys but you can search it up online (ik im askin too much).

thanks,

Dell Precision 5510: My laptop is suddenly dead, cannot determine the reason

My Dell Precision 5510 from 2016 suddenly won't power on (completely dead).

It used to work normally until couple of months ago, since when it just wouldn't power on. No light on a power button, no sound, no fans spinning, no text on display.

Previously, there was no warning signs of any problems, except maybe for a power button, I needed to press it a little bit harder then usual, but that was the issue forever.

What I did so far:

Checked charger voltage, it is 19.4 V, very close to declared 19.5 V.

Wiggled cable, checked that the charger is fully plugged in

Removed the base cover, removed some dust around the fans (there was some built up, but not too bad)

Removed the battery and charger, pressed power button for 1 min

Attached battery back, without charger, still dead

Attached charger, without battery, ditto

Removed one RAM module (out of two), then removed the second one, swap their places, etc, no luck

Any suggestions how to proceed from here?

Update (10/19/23)

Hi @oldturkey03,

My battery connector have have 12 wires: 4 red, 4 gray, and 4 black (left to right).

When charger is unplugged, and battery connected to the board, on battery connector I read 11.8 V on red wires, zeros on all others:

When battery is disconnected, I cannot read any voltage. I tried to probe on the back of the connector and on the bottom:

When I connected charger, I noticed two LEDs below the touchpad started to glow for a second, then turned off again.

With charger connected, on DC connector on motherboard, I read 19.4 V (three red wires), 3.3 V (grey wire).

When charger is connected and battery connected too, on battery connector I read 12.6 V (red wires), and 3.3 V (first two grey wires). Other two gray wires are on 0 V. I don't know if this is expected or not.

LEDs I mention before turned on for couple of minutes, then turned off again.

My understanding so far:

Battery is fine

Charger is fine

Charger connector is fine

Battery is charging

Could it be that the power button is damaged? That laptop is fine, but I just cannot turn it on?

Update (11/01/23)

I was unable to fix this myself so I took laptop to a service. The repair guy said that the power button is ok, but the two controllers that are orchestrating the powerup sequence needed to be replaced and one of them needs to be reprogrammed.

Dell Precision 5510: Why can’t my Dell precision 5510 keep a charge?

My laptop’s battery kept getting worse and worse. Eventually it couldn’t keep a charge. Laptop would still run on AC power but it would randomly power off abruptly. I changed the battery. Powered up and it seemed ok. It said that it was charging. At one point it reached 100%. I kept it plugged in in order to calibrate the new battery. Then the original issues returned. I’ve also gotten messages that it doesn’t recognize my charger even though it’s the official one that came with my laptop. I updated everything and it happened again. Now it will not start for more than a second. There’s a blinking orange light near the trackpad but doesn’t blink a consistent amount of times. Any info is welcome. Thank you!

Dell Precision 5530: Weird Graphics issues and artifacts

My Dell Presision 5530 has been having some weird graphics issues. Here are some of them that happen:

The computer is still usable for now, and I usually get at least one of these things happening several times per hour of use.

Here are the things I have tried and did not fix it.

Fully deleting and reinstalling both the Nvidia and Intel graphics drivers.

Updating windows, bios, and graphics drivers

sfc scan and DISM restore

How can I fix this? Is it a hardware problem, or software?

Precision 5750: Dell precision 17" / Dell XPS 17 - interchangeability of parts

Hello,

I would like to ask if anyone knows which parts and between which generations are interchangeable. Let's say that I would like to mount a 4K display on a Dell precision 5750 (i7 10 gen version and full hd display). If I ordered a 4K display from ebay from a dell xps 17, would it work? Is the connector on the logicboard the same? Alternatively, would only an IPS panel 4K work or also OLED panel? Could I also mount a display with touch panel? Is there such a connector on the motherboard? One last question - if I decided I wanted to replace the motherboard with a newer version (for example, the one from the 9720 with 12gen intel and RTX GPU) - would it work?

Dell Precision 5520: Dell Precision 5540 won't power on from new battery

Replaced my 56WHr original battery (down to half capacity) with iFixit's 97WHr replacement. Fits beautifully after removing hard drive bracket.

Laptop runs fine on AC. Sometimes when I unplug, it immediately powers off hard, as if no battery. Other times it runs a few minutes before powering off hard. And other times it runs for hours. All this from 85% or better starting charge.

Laptop will NOT power up from battery. First push of the power button, the power button, keyboard, and front power indicator all light up for about 2 seconds before turning off. No further activity. Subsequent pushes of power button yield nothing.

When I asked iFixit if it could be a bad battery, they sent a replacement. That one's behaving exactly the same.

I reinstalled the original battery, and it works as it should - short run time, but always holds up when full, and runs to empty.

Anybody have a Dell 6GTPY from here that actually works? Or experienced similar and fixed it?
