Dell Precision 7520: Random mouse clicks every few seconds

Bought the Precision 7520 used from New Egg - excellent deal. But some keys are loose on the keyboard and I get random mouse clicks every few seconds, perhaps the trackpad, or with a wireless mouse plugged in. Just watching the screen, not touching it, if I leave the mouse pointer over anything that can be clicked on or selected, it will do that by itself after a few seconds.

Precision 5750: Dell precision 17" / Dell XPS 17 - interchangeability of parts

Hello,

I would like to ask if anyone knows which parts and between which generations are interchangeable. Let's say that I would like to mount a 4K display on a Dell precision 5750 (i7 10 gen version and full hd display). If I ordered a 4K display from ebay from a dell xps 17, would it work? Is the connector on the logicboard the same? Alternatively, would only an IPS panel 4K work or also OLED panel? Could I also mount a display with touch panel? Is there such a connector on the motherboard? One last question - if I decided I wanted to replace the motherboard with a newer version (for example, the one from the 9720 with 12gen intel and RTX GPU) - would it work?

Thnaks for every answer

Dell Precision 5520: Dell Precision 5540 won't power on from new battery

Replaced my 56WHr original battery (down to half capacity) with iFixit's 97WHr replacement. Fits beautifully after removing hard drive bracket.

Laptop runs fine on AC. Sometimes when I unplug, it immediately powers off hard, as if no battery. Other times it runs a few minutes before powering off hard. And other times it runs for hours. All this from 85% or better starting charge.

Laptop will NOT power up from battery. First push of the power button, the power button, keyboard, and front power indicator all light up for about 2 seconds before turning off. No further activity. Subsequent pushes of power button yield nothing.

When I asked iFixit if it could be a bad battery, they sent a replacement. That one's behaving exactly the same.

I reinstalled the original battery, and it works as it should - short run time, but always holds up when full, and runs to empty.

Anybody have a Dell 6GTPY from here that actually works? Or experienced similar and fixed it?

Dell Precision: Slow Performance without proper Power Adapter after update on M4800?

Intermittently, since I purchased my laptop 3.5 years ago, I have noticed a problem where I plug in my official Dell 180W power supply into my Dell Precision M4800 laptop, and the Dell software would inform me that the power supply wasn't recognized and that it was under 150W. But, this usually resolved itself after a few minutes, or else I could unplug and re-plug the power supply and everything would be fine.

The bad news when this bogus error happened was that my CPU clock was slowed from 3.5 GHz to 0.35 GHz (a factor of 10!), which essentially made the PC nearly unusable.

A couple of weeks ago, my laptop underwent a software update, and now 9 times out of 10, the official Dell 180W power supply which was shipped with my laptop directly from Dell is incorrectly recognized as being unknown and under 150W.

This is clearly a software error on Dell's part, because it started occurring immediately after the software update and doesn't resolve by itself any longer, and also does not resolve by unplugging and re-plugging the power supply.

I would really appreciate it if someone at Dell would read this post and actually look into getting this problem fixed. I am not the only person who has experienced this problem, as there are at least 2 other posts (and multiple responses) from as far back as 2014 with a similar issue. As a pointer of where to look: in the communication between the laptop power drivers and the power supply, either the drivers or the power supply is causing the problem. It shouldn't be too hard to modify the driver software to properly handle the situation and avoid this debilitating roll back of the CPU clock speed.

As one other poster pointed out: the M4800 is only drawing 35W, why, then, do you need a 150W minimum power supply attached to the bloody machine?? Maybe the battery can't be quickly charged with a 50W power supply, but surely the clock speed doesn't need to be cut by a factor of 10 in even that extreme power situation.

Sheesh, guys, it's a Dell laptop, a Dell power supply, and Dell software: it certainly seems like there can't be any finger pointing at some mysterious 3rd party misbehaving and magically causing this problem with Dell having zero ability to do anything about it. Seriously, can't you get this right?

Dell Precision 7720: Dell Precision 7740 Heatsink Re-Paste Re-Pad

Hi all,

I have a Dell Precision 7740 with a NVidia Quadro RTX 5000 in it and I am trying to re-paste and re-pad it. I am thinking of Fujipoly for the pads and already have Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut for the paste. I am encountering a problem in that nowhere online is it posted the dimensions of the thermal pads for the computer. I have tried the user manual and calling tech support to no success. I looked up the heatsink (FHD64), and all I could find were pictures. Based on what I could see, there seem to be different sized and thicknesses in their pads and different colors. Does anyone happen to know what the dimensions for the thermal pads on the heatsink and GPU and what the different colors mean?

Dell Precision: have I damaged my motherboard or just faulty LVDS cable?

well yesterday i got a replacement palm rest i ordered from ebay for my Precision M4800 and i dropped a screw in the system i dont know for sure if it was in standby or windows decided to kick itself out of it (does that often because fml) it didnt appear to have shorted anything and the system never shut off like it normally would in the event of a short. But after that the lcd has not worked correctly ever since.

If i disable the switchable graphics i get no image at all unless i connect an external monitor. with switchable graphics enabled the screen works sort of, it wont display the bios unless i connect a VGA monitor but windows boots and works fine but running a game results in very very poor framerates and the CPU fan screams after a few seconds. and device manager no longer reports the corrects LCD panel in the system just says generic 1024x768.

DELL's diagnostic reports this error "UNABLE TO ACCESS LCD EDID EEPROM" and alot of people are saying just replace the LVDS cable which is 16 dollars no big deal but the fact i dropped the screw in the system makes me question the motherboard which is 90 dollars.

I dont think it's the nvidia card because i completely removed it and still had issues and the diagnostic still reported the error.

Everything works flawlessly with an external monitor absolutely no issues whatsoever, windows reports the correct monitor and everything. even the HDMI works and i ran a game for a while ran full speed without issue. with and without switchable graphics enabled so im not sure if its a damaged motherboard or just a faulty cable which would be strange because i never even touched the cable once while installing the palm rest but its old so not outside the realm of possibility.

any ideas?
