Dell Latitude D620: Dell laptop won't start!

I have a Dell latitude d620 and sometimes when i press the power button the three keyboard buttons are flashing and nothing else happens! no signal at the lcd, no nothing! Any ideas?

i forgot to say that sometimes it starts up correctly... i read about damaged cpu or motherboard but it works nice when it opens...

Hello! I have a Latitude D630 that I've spent a lot of time upgrading and servicing as a side project. I was wondering the upgrade path from where I am. I have a Core 2 Duo and would like to go further down the CPU route. It is a Socket P (478) Motherboard.

Dell Latitude D620: Thermal pad replacement alternatives

Hi. I've read the post "Dell Latitude D620 Teardown" and my question is: if the chipset's blue thermal pad is missing, can I replace it with a piece of copper and putting the thin layer of Artic Silver 5 between the copper and the chip and between the copper and the heatsink?

The question is due to I can't get that kind of thermal pad in my country, only can get very thin thermal pad and it seems of a different material. Or what other alternatives can I develop?

Dell Latitude D520: Is my laptop's power failure a motherboard problem?

Hello all.

Few days ago my laptop died. The AC adaptor was plugged (and with the green light on) but the battery indicator decreased and finally, the windows low battery message was displayed and finally I shutdown the laptop before the battery was empty.

After that, I tried to switch on without the battery, only with the AC adaptor, but with not successful. When I put again the battery on the laptop then the laptop worked but the battery continued discharging until it was completly empty.

And now the laptop not works any longer. I check the AC adaptor works and a IT professional said me that the problem was the DELL integrated motherboard.

I asked Dell for support and then they said to me that if I want to repair the computer it would cost me $1080 :O

Now I'm asking if there is any way to repair this by myself and where can I found how to repair.

Is anybody lives in Spain and knows any shop where I can repair it is also a good solution.

Dell Latitude D620: Laptop will not start, no fan noise or hard drive noise

One day I was working on my latitude D620 and all of a sudden it just shut off. I tried restarting it, but when turning it on I only got the power icon light to turn on for about 3 second and then the light went away. Also when I try to turn it on I do not get a fan sound or a hard drive sound. It seems to me that there is no power going to the drive or fan. I have played with the memory modules but still not luck. Any ideas?

hi I have 2 dell lap tops that I have not used for a long time and when I swiched them on so to give a good check and update the admin pass word page came on and as I do not know the said pass words I cannot get pass it. Even when swiched on and try to open in safe mode or F2,F8 and F12 it will not let me pass is thir any way round this problem.

Dell Latitude D400: Wireless Network Connection periodically becomes unresponsive.

This usually happens after one or two hour's use. Since I haven't been able to find a corresponding process in the task manager (at least not one I'm comfortable trying)I have to restart the whole system in order to get my connection back which is, to say the least, very frustrating.

I'm running Windows XP - service pack 3.

The laptop itself is a refurb so I can't be 100% sure of the hardware.

Using a different browser doesn't seem to have any effect either way.

Dell Latitude D520: Power cable has connection problems

My Dell power cable started to randomly fail to supply power to the laptop. I suspected it was around the point of connection to the laptop because I could jiggle it around a bit and power would be restored.

It got so bad that I replaced the power cable with a cheap Chinese part from Amazon. This worked well for about 3 months and now has exactly the same problem.

Naively I would like to think I just need to make the fit better so it stays connected, but I'm not sure how I would do that.

Can someone advise a repair or a method to confirm the diagnosis of faulty connection and nothing more serious?

Dell Latitude D620: Won't power on, no lights will come on at all.

My boyfriend was working on my laptop and it suddenly shut off, it just cut out. If I try to turn it on again nothing at all happens, no lights, no fan noise. I also tried pulling the battery and plugging the ac in, still nothing. I really need to get this laptop going again.

Dell Latitude D620: Why does my son's D620 display flicker?

Some days ago my son's DELL Latitude D620 suddenly started flickering steadily during normal work.

This occurs already during POST, combined with red lines evenly arranged vertically all over the screen, appr. every 1cm.

Beside this, the device seems to start up normally in the Background, but the flickering doesn't stop.

I've also tried loading BIOS Defaults, without any change.

Anyone an idea?

When I turn it on it shows Windows Boot Manager screen and asks to insert my windows installation disk and click repair.

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem insert disc.

Also has status : 0xc000000e

Info: the not selection failed bc a required device is inaccessible.

Don't have the disk and running Windows 8

Dell Latitude D620: My D620 Latitude keeps shutting down

Hi there , I have an old D620 Latitude and it keeps shutting down !

Sometimes it works for an hour or so and on other occations just a few seconds .

It happens mostly when the pc has to play a movie or read a Cd/DVD and sometimes just out of thin air!

Also the little battery lamp isnt lid up but the battery seems fine (i checked on the battery leds and on the computer in the setup menu all seems fine .

Cd/DVD drive seems to be working fine , and the set up says the mashine is ok .

what could course this problem?

Do I need a new motherboard or a new hard drive?or........???

Dell Latitude D531: Fan ramps up then stops.

Hello, I have a Dell Latitude D531, it runs for a few seconds at max rpm then stops and keeps repeating, after a few minutes it shuts off, sometimes the fan doesn't spin at all. I have tried cleaning the fan, removing the CMOS battery and replacing the old thermal paste, it didn't help. Any idea how I can fix it?
